Is it only Superstar or DT Swiss for 10mm rear QR bolts?
Anybody?
DT Swiss ones apply much more torque, which is what you want if you want stiffer.
American Classis do them that weigh/cost in between the steel axled £9 Superstar and the much lighter £30-35 DT RWS
It would appear the american classics are almost the same as the superstar ones (external cam QR) but with an aluminium axle instead of steel. Also i think about £17?
IIRC the 10mm*135mm ones weigh 80g when JRA weighed one when I was umming and arring
I went DT in the end, I quite like the RWS, am going off the spiel that the new RWS's won't break like the old plastic ones and am not too keen on external cam QRs
Just Riding Along have the metal RWS skewers
thanks folks, i will check em out.
Superstar one was good for me, maybe RWS has improved but it used to be **** - mine broke the 2nd time i used it, I didn't even need to tell the shop why I was returning it, they just said "RWS skewer? Yeah, sorry. Don't worry, we won't send you a replacement." 😆
Though in the end, I changed to a Hope bolt-in that seemed to have all the advantage, and was lighter.
I have a chumba one and a superstar one they are pretty much identical and both work well
I also had an nc17 alluminium one, but i over tightened it and it snapped

for a few grammes extra id get a steel one
Well, I liked it. Arguably bolts are more likely to loosen than a QR but I reckon 2 bolts, so you'd need to be fairly unlucky/unaware to have both loosen. Weight was a bit less even with the standard massive steel bolts, and stiffness felt comparable- though to be fair, it was in a stiff enough bike so it was harder to tell exactly what was going on.
TBH apart from the dh bike all my bikes are back to rear QR now anyway.
Back to standard QR or 10mm thru?
Standard QR. well, Halo bolt-skewers rather, but QR thickness.
So the upgrade to 10mm not really worth then?
Depends on you really. I'm light and my current frames aren't exactly noodly anyway so when I swapped wheels I was happy to go back to standard. It did make a noticable difference on a flexier frame though.
