I've built up a new bike and it's got Shimano 12 speed on it.
I had been using 12 speed with a two year old Works Components 30t ring just fine but this won't fit the new bike. The replacement generic 32t chainring from Amazon doesn't work with the 12 speed chain. I've put on an E Thirteen 32t ring that's really worn for now but it's not narrow wide and the chain flops off regularly, even with a chain guide. I also don't think it'll last very long, some of the teeth are really shark finned.
I'm interested in which new, unridden chainrings people have had succcess with for the new Hyperglide+ chains. I need something that fits a 104 BCD chainring and is round which rules out Race Face and Absolute Black, and I'm not spending £77 on a bloody chainring which rules out Wolftooth. Anyone had any good experiences?
I'm using a KMC chain link, not the Shimano one, which some people said would solve the problem but hasn't in this case.
Not used this one specifically but I've had a couple of their chainrings on my old bike which ran 12 spd XTR mech and shifter with an Eagle cassette and chain. All ran lovely together.

Added bonus in that once you have the Switch spider the chainrings are cheaper and can be changed without taking the crank off (which I seem to remember was something you could do on the old cranks.. progress eh.!!)
#EDIT Dammit.. just re-read your post and this is obviously not the chainring you are looking for.. move along..
Their 104BCD rings are compatible with Eagle chainns, which is obviously of no use to you.. I'll get back in me box..
Can I interest Sir in an SLX crank with included chainring.. the shimano rings seem to be very good, had no issues with the XT one the new bike came with. That would get you around the problem of replacement rings going forward as everyone and his dog are starting to do rings for '20 Shimano cranks.

Superstar Raptor worked fine for me. It was the same one I'd been riding with my 11sp stuff for eight months or so, rather than being brand new.
But it was designed as a 12sp compatible chainring, hence the "Eagle"-related name.
I'm keen to stick with the cranks I have as they're fancy lightweight carbonfibre ones.
Chakaping - this seems to be the issue, people say "I've got this chainring and it works" but it's a chainring that's worn and fits the Hyperglide + chain profile - as has happened with my old Works one. So it's difficult to tell if a new Raptor would fit. Also, I won't buy Superstar components stuff because they're a cretinous company.
Wolftooth sh12 32t and 34t, no chain drop yet with Shimano chains and derailers.
Got two bikes set up with xt 12speed and I’m running one with a wolftooth and the other with a raceface no issues at all.
one thing I did notice is if you use the Shimano quick link it needs to go on a curtain way or it jumps a bit can also look closed but still not quite be fully so check that out to.
batman11 - was the Raceface ring new when you switched to 12 speed? And is the Wolftooth one the 12 speed specific one or a regular one, and again was it brand new when you fitted it?
I'm not using the Shimano quick link but the chain still rides up the teeth on the chainring I've got.
fivealive - As stated in my original post, £77 for a chainring can absolutely get to ****. I'm sure it works, and I know the drivetrain and bike aren't cheap, but some things have a maximum cost that can be justified and that's above my threshold for a chainring.
One-up have 12spd Shimano rings.
I'm using a new modular FSA megatooth 11spd ring and works perfectly even with the quick link.
Superstar have 12spd shimano rings too don't they?
superstar oval for m8000 cranks.... don't use absolute black oval -they don't work,,
The FSA one sounds promising - it's an FSA chainset. Still a lot of money, though.
Also, I won’t buy Superstar components stuff because they’re a cretinous company.
Go on, I'll bite. Why? Have fitted a few of their chainrings and they've been both excellent quality and retain chains well...
What chainset do you have?
It's a K Force but with a 104 BCD, not one of the newer modular ones. Looks like life would be easier if I had a direct mount crank but sadly not.
Daern - something to do with them making pornography of octopuses.
Are you sure it's 104bcd?
I have a few kforce cranks here. Oldest one with 24mm spindle is their funky 3 bolt setup, then I have an ACB 4 bolt with 30mm spindles (this in not 104). the latest being modular Cannondale direct mount.
I do have a product gap between 3bolt and ACB though so could have been here as a 4bolt double with 30mm spindle from memory. But that would put it as 2010 model year?
I'm 90% sure kforce was never available as 1x in 104 though. Afterburner, comet, gradient all were.
Totally appreciate you wanting to keep the kforce cranks going though. They are amazing strength/weight!
Definitely 104, that's what's on there at the moment. Can't remember what year they are, o think I bought them a couple of years ago but they were old stock.
munrobiker To be fair both had very low use a couple of small rides when I fitted the new 12 speed So no real where issues on that front.

The chainring seems to have dropped importance all of a sudden! What did I miss?!
Edited and I still can’t work out the quote thing!
Found raceface and superstar raptor to work just fine when using a sram eagle quick link.
I have since moved to a raceface shimano 12 speed ring, can use the shimano mater links, and do find less friction due to chainline extremes at both ends of the cassette.
I think it's one of those things like how well the shimano 12 speed chain and cassette shifts, the matching parts work that well together, it's worth trying to go the whole hog in my view.
Is SRAM cross compatible in terms of the chain? There direct mount rings are really cheap, under £20. Steel which to me seems sensible. Might be cheaper to change cranks in the long run
Burgtec chainring works on my M8000 XT chainset.
