OK, boring post of the day.
Any recommendations for a bottle cage that will securely grip my water bottle while hitting jumps and DH tracks? I'd rather it gripped securely than allowed easy access while pedalling.
Side entry is not necessary but would be nice to have.
As cheap as poss
Rather not a metal one.
Thanks,
Duane.
Blackburn MTB. If needs be, you can bend it to make it tighter.
Specialize Zee cage, never dropped a bottle yet.
Specialized Zee cage has only lost my bottle once so far, and that was when the bike cartwheeled over my head into the trees on what was probably the steepest track I've ever ridden.
`I use an Elite Custom on my HT and that's never let go either.
Cheap alloy one you can bend down hold the bottle tighter.
Not had a problem in years of bumpy peak decents.
As above zee cage is brilliant. Also use a stretchy strap to give extra security is very rough
I've got a Giant plastic side-entry one, which was about £12 from my LBS.
It has put up with quite a bit of abuse and not lost it's bottle yet.
Carbon one off eBay from China. Less than £10, very light and grips the bottle very well. I think plain matte carbon looks good as well
Never dropped a bottle from one of the 3 quid plastic Decathlon ones. Including lots of BPW blacks and many crashes.
Metal one, ideally Elite Ciussi, with some grip tape added and squeezed a touch to toughen it up. Yes, it’s metal but you’ll not lose a bottle.
Zee cage for me. Never lost a bottle over the rough stuff.
Yep side entry decathlon one and decathlon bottle to match.
Tried a Zee but didn't like. Depending on the bottle the cage wouldn't hold it straight or fully in, CB podiums. I have a 5010 so needed a cage that would allow side access to clear the shock.
Now using a Wolf Tooth Morse on one bike (made by King) and a King cage on the other. Standard shaped cages but I can get the bottle in and out at an angle to clear the shock, even a large CB Podium.
So just about any cage then 😄
I've used a cheap Specialized metal one on my outside of the downtube mount (which is renowned for being the place from which you are most likely to lose bottles) and the bottle has stayed put in enduros and at places with big jumps like Wind Hill. You just need to bend it to grip the bottle as hard as possible.

I use my Zee with podium larger bottle and fits like a glove.
Lezyne flow cage has been great!
2nd the Lezyne recommendation - got one to replace an Elite cage after a few lost bottles and it’s been great so far. Bit harder to remove the bottle for a drink but worth the security trade off.
Lezyne flow cage has been great!
I like those too. Just fitted one on my wife's bike and seems to hold the bottle nice and tight.
I have a Specialized cage on my Enduro (of similar side loading design) and that has been faultless for 5 years too. Now got a Canyon side loader on my new bike (again very similar design). I guess I just like the plastic side loading type!
