hi, new to the forum but far from new to mtb 🙂

Ive been racing downhill now for two years, and last year/winte was my first time of proper training. i mostly did road riding and a one session of dh a week. But i think ill benefit alof from doing xc aswell as i found my self still abit weak.

now I thought this was the best forum to come with xc issues, so what would be the best bike second hand for around under £5-600...would rather 500 😛

thanks in advanced 🙂

Build, unless you find a good complete.

Oh, and there's an On-one Scandal in the classifieds for under £400, you could spend your change on upgrading the fork and your sorted!

I suggest putting up some more info about what sort of riding; lightweight or more burly trails? Your budget says hardtail, but it could be a versatile bike, not just a light one.

I'm a fan of the long travel steel hardtail myself. I've got a Dialled Prince Albert with a 140mm Revelation up front and a gravity dropper seatpost. Light enough to get up, but obviously more set for getting back down 😀

because im a dh'er i find my self being quite heavy on bikes jumping at every occasion i can find and flying through root and rock sections. but I am looking more at hardtails for longer rides as its more for training than leisure.but also it would be nice to have a bike that feels the same as my dh bike (quite low and slack 2010 specialized demo 8 )

I have been looking at giant trance's coming up cheap on ebay which isnt often as they all seem to be large or x.large!

Ill have a look at that focus now! thanks again

Can't go wrong with an Trace for a XC do it all day bike, but the Anthem would be a more XC mile munching choice. However, you'd be lucky to get either built on your budget.
