Afternoon all,
After hiring some all-mountain full sus bikes whilst on holiday in Lenzerheide this summer, one of my 11 year olds wants something similar.
Okay we live near the Surrey Hills and do the odd trip to Wales riding. So I am not thinking Enduro, more of a close replacement for his Orange Zest he is about to outgrow.
Size, a 27.5 small adult frame seems to be right. Budget - I want to not go backwards spec wise - RS forx and 11 speed + good brakes min. He is fast, I have to ride like I stool my bike to keep up. He is into a few jumps but prefers to ride fast.
Any thoughts?
My 10yr old is on a Small 29er Scott Scale 950, good spec, Fox 32 Rhythm, GX 1x11, tubeless wheels and all that, he's pretty damn quick and is getting quicker and quicker.
Personally I think usefulness of a FS is debatable until they get to about 50kg due to getting the rear shock to work properly, I might be wrong, but those are my thoughts
Is a Trek Ex Jnr too small?

Trying to get rid of ours as it's just sat around doing nowt.
What did he ride in Lenzerheide? That could be a starting point if he enjoyed it.
How big is he? At 11 I was 5’10 and 75kg (in the following 32 years I’ve only managed to gain another inch but also 25kg). Whereas my nephew is 11 and his height could at best he described as “hobbit-sized”.
Thanks for your help. I will take a look at your suggestions, and must admit I do wonder about the full-sus v HT. I have always felt if you have one mtb it should a HT first.
He rode a Reaper in Lenzerheide. It would be nice to throw his leg over one again to make sure its future proof. Tom is 160'ish cm and inside leg of near 80. Size 10 feet though!
