You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
due to various reasons i haven't ridden my bike for a long time now (partly depression but mostly the dreaded hemorrhoids have stopped us. will be having operation no 3 next tuesday to hopefully finally get rid of the ****ers once and for all).
anyhoo today i was in swindon after having a pre op blood test and was wandering past a salvation army bicycle refurb shop and saw a 1994 model marin pine mountain in the window (the model with the titanium finish).
well having a 1992 eldridge grade that i loved,i just had to go check it out.
it was in very good nick i have to say and also had some very nice stuff fitted to it (xt thummies/mechs and seatpost i think) also a sugino chainset (i think).
the shop is selling it for £250 which i am happy to pay for it as the bike is in very good nick and it is also helping a charity to boot.
well i fell in love with it and am hoping to be able to get it in the next 3 weeks (if it hasn't been sold beforehand as i didn't have any money to put as a deposit atm).
i definitely plan on riding the bike when i have recovered from the op as i loved my eldridge grade i have to say and i ride the same areas i did back in the early 90's so i know that i can def ride the bike. if i want suspension i will just stand up like the old days lol 😀 i cannot wait to start riding it tbh.
not my pic/exact bike but you'll get the idea

so what bike do you plan on buying next?
A sub £400 touring tandem to attempt to get the gf into touring! She's shown a significant amount of interest in spending next summer touring europe so we'll see if it's a good idea or not!
Edit: Still on the look out if anyone has anything that matches my wanted post....
'Planning' as in 'this is what i would have if i didn't have a wedding and a new house to fund...'
Pivot Les 29, with spec/colour to match my 429SL
if the wedding comes in at less than a powerball jackpot sized amount then that will be my reward, but I'm not hopeful
Yamaha yzf R1. Tomorrow
something long ,low and slack with short travel at both ends when I find something that fits the description
Giant trinity frameset.
I love all my current bikes, so not planning on buying any anytime soon. There are many bits and pieces I want, though, so probably wheels for my summer racing bike.
Hightower LT
Getting attracted to that dark-side as my 50th is looming and I fancy a treat...looking at a 'dale CAAD12 Ultegra at the moment.
Lush ...? http://www.cannondale.com/en/USA/Bike/ProductDetail?Id=81f16f22-bb5f-400e-a0a6-3648e55a9221
Got a frame on the way to me now.
No plans to buy anything else for a long time after that.
Turning over a new leaf, I am.
No more bikes for me for a while. I need to get rid of some first as I'm not riding so much at the minute.
If I HAD to have a new bike I'd get a Stooge or a Fargo.
Not planned it yet but it will likely be a custom built 29+ with a gearbox. Got a year or so yet, unless Stanton release their 29+ sherpa first, in which case I will get one of those in the meantime.
For the first time in a very long time I'm not actually after a new bike.
On the Marin thing, don't jump too quickly as 250 is quite a lot for that bike. 91 Eldridge just come up on eBay and a 91 Team can be had for not much more. If you ask on retrobike you will get a 92 Eldridge for less than 250.
Hightower to compliment the longer enduro bike and shifting the XC bike
Waiting for the new 18 Patrol to come out in Carbon, I expect around Feb/March then I will do a frame transfer to swap out my 17 frame, slap on a new 170mm fork and voila.
I've still got my 1992 Pine Mountain. I just use it as a pub bike. Took it off-road a couple of times while my main bike was out of action. Scary as f@#k! I thought I would miss having no suspension but the worst part was trying to stop with canti brakes.
Waiting for someone to come up with something like an Aetis 145 but that'll take 29 and 650b+ wheels. Until then I'm keeping my cash.
Nothing. Seriously, unless a a proper bargain for a big cargo bike or a TT/Tri bike comes up then nothing.
So what I actually mean is a TT bike.
Olive green SC Bronson - just been told it will be built on Tuesday. 6 weeks wait for it and all this talk of redundant 650b has been confusing..
I don't need anything, but I'd kinda like a new cargo / commuter / camper that would mostly be used for the trip between my village and the ferry pier, market and bars.
Thinking something like a [url=
]Surly Ogre with the amazing 24-pack rack, but I may be tempted by the siren song of the [url=
]Big Fat Dummy.
Mrs_oab has a year old Superfly, I've a month old NailTrail.
Eldest_oab will need a large 2010-2012 Orange Five frame as he out grows his medium this winter.
Middle_oab will out grow his Large Superlight, so looking for L or even XL 29er HT for him at Christmas or New year.
Youngest_oab gets a hand-me-down...
Salsa Spearfish. Well I've actually bought the frame, I just need to buy the bits and build it up. Completely undecided as to how far up the bling ladder I want to go 😆
Either a new Bfe frame (if it's ok with 26 wheels and forks initially) a Sherpa or an Aeris. Given I'm not currently working it might have to be the cheapest one!
A Boardman CX Comp on the B2W scheme. Should be arriving today!
I'm the oposite of a serial bike buyer - it's Trigger's Broom all the way for me and I take pride in spending as little as possible on cycling.
That said, I fully understand the motivational boost that new kit can bring, and seeing as I've barely ridden more than a handful of times in the last two years, I think it's time to change things.
So I'm gonna get my 2006 Rockshox Rev serviced and fit my Mk 1 Soul with it's first ever suspension fork.
I've been riding rigid bikes exclusively for the last 5 or 6 years, and I think the ability to effortlessly razz over anything and everything again might just relight my fire.
If I won the lottery or summink I quite fancy a Pony Rustler for the same reason.
Oh, and yunki Jr needs a bigger bike this month.. I've got an ace vintage steel Redline BMX to restore for him, so that'll need a few bits and bobs
Certainly don't need anything
But in the n+1 tradition if I did it'd be something for mixed road / light off-road and bikepacking
Possibly a Vagabond or maybe something like a Trek Stache or Salsa Woodsmoke
Hmmm.
Happy with my MTB.
Happy withy heavy roadie/tourer.
The racy roadie needs a groupset and the pub bike needs a rebuild, so I'll concentrate on that for the time being.
After that, I quite fancy a trike or possibly a secondhand Big Dummy/Ute type thing....
Enduro 2018, order placed, fingers crossed its here on the 14th, away to Finale the following week!
Was a toss up between the enduro and hightower (slash is an odd size and the pedaling position isn't great for me)
Canyon SLX disc for a frame swap with all the kit off my 4S.
Canyon SLX rim-brake (job...hahaha) for all the kit off my race bike.
Sell everything else, it's no longer needed. Apart from maybe a 5010 frame to transfer the kit off my Mondraker on to...
New Carbon XC 29er HT is currently on it's way from Austria 😀
some fantsy pants big wheeler, sherpa ti, chromag surface, travers, poss jones.
There will be a new Geometron G16 arriving into our garage next week.
Not mine though. This one's for Mrsstu.
I'm liking the look of that new Commencal E bike on the front page though...
I've been planning to buy a replacement bike for the past 6 years but each year I see some glossy travel piccies in a bike mag and before you know it the savings have gone again on flights, rental, etc.
It appears 'where' I ride is more important to me than 'what' I ride at the moment.
Less that 2 weeks and the old single-pivot 26er will touch down in Denver ready to explore CO, UT, AZ, NM 🙂
Waiting for geo / details of 2018 Norco Optic before deciding on that or a Smuggler , but I really want it in carbon..
Ditching the enduro bike for a short travel 29er and keeping the DH bike for the uplifts . Been coming up 5 years since a new trail bike for me some I'm excited!
For anyone wanting a cargo bike.
For reference I have a Minute and it is the most used bike I have.
both iainc juniors on new bikes this month having grown out their previous ones. An expensive month...
2 new Cube 27.5 HT's. One LTD Race, 18 inch frame, XT groupset, One Attention SL, 16 inch frame, Deore/xt mix.
2 happy juniors 🙂
Have been talking about 'my next road bike' for a ridiculous amount of time, my riding co-workers don't even take me seriously any more when I talk about what I'm thinking of getting, and no surprise since it keeps changing.
Anyway, currently narrowed it down to either the new Specialized Allez Elite, with lots of self-indulgent upgrades to get the weight down to the low 8kgs for an aluminium road frame with rim brakes and 28c tyres and threaded BB. Still waiting to see what the special edition paint job is going to be.

Alternatively a Holdsworth Competion frame with a Potenza groupset and Fulcrum Racing 3s. Many of the same benefits of the Specialized but gives me more choice in components. Slightly less practical but I reckon I could still jam in some PDW mudguards if I needed to.
Both are contingent on an upcoming Retul bike fit, as I'm still a bit confused on what size bike I should actually be riding!
in the new year my Kona Ute may well be going on the classifieds here, kids getting too big for it 🙁 it will be missed when it finally goes and I need shed room (may even chop or dismantle the fixed gear as well)
thinking about something CX/grrravel, possibly a self build... hmmm ..
I only bought a new one yesterday so haven't started thinking about the next one yet :-/
Mine has gone into paint 🙂
Depending on how I get on with the Genesis Vapour Carbon I've borrowed this weekend, the next purchase could be a Genesis Vapour Carbon. I've been commuting on the same roads for so long that I thought it might be time to find something less tarmac to ride for a change.
After a nearly 10 year break, I fancy a DH bike - although it'll be so long I'll need a zimmer before I see a pair of triple clamps again.
well further to my original post, the good news is that i have reserved the marin pine mountain 1994 model now. will be paying for it picking it up fortnight thursday 😀
the downside is that i won't be able to ride it as i have just had a colonoscopy/haemorrhoidectomy operation yesterday and it will take 6 weeks until i can finally ride a bike (everything crossed as i haven't been able to ride a bike for over a year any distance due to the bastid roids).
i cannot bloody wait to finally get back on a bike again and i will be polishing the marin and stroking it a lot up till then (apologies for the carry on humour 😀
i am actually really excited about getting this bike as i am a huge retro bike fan and remember how much i loved my 1992 marin eldridge grade bike (i ride the same terrain as i did back then/well did ride lol)
i will shut up now lol
There's not much out there that grabs me, so I had my 2014 29er repainted instead. It's very nice and cost a fraction of a new frame.
There's only one bike left for me to buy... eBike 😆
Love my T130 but I can't help but yern for something a little lighter and possibly with wagon wheels... It'll be a fair few years off but if Transition do a Carbon Smuggler in the next year or two I could be tempted to move across to big wheels, shame Whyte have discontinued the T129, if they had done a carbon version of that to sit alongside the S150 I would have been very tempted.
Maybe a Mason Bokeh
or
Maybe a Mason Definition
or
Maybe a Canyon Aeroad
Good news is, i've reached 1 in, 1 out stage, and i'm far too lazy to sell one, so should stave off temptation until something falls apart
