Hi. Sorry this is quite a boring thread. Unless something unforeseen happens, anyway.

I have some Mavic Crossmax SX. They're getting on a bit now I expect, I bought them second hand a while back. They look like these.

There's a bit of play in the rear hub so I think I need new bearings. I think they're 2009? If anyone could confirm that and also point me at some good reliable replacements that would be super lovely. Thanks. I found some on eBay that I think are right but I'm less than certain.

2009 model SX

play in the hub isn't necessarily a problem, as they are adjustable - did you get a little spoke wrench with pegs on it? I'm guessing not second hand -

put wheels in frame, tighten QR and spin wheel - on the NDS there will be some little holes, put the tool or a pin spanner n the holes and tighten GENTLY till you see a bit of resistance (wheel slowing) - then back off 1/2 a turn and they are set correctly.

ignore slight play when unladen as a sign, the above is the correct way to tension the bearing.

if they DO need new bearings, then off the top of my head it would be something like a 6903 and a 6082RS (might be wrong on that, ages since I looked, check the numbers on the ones to come out)

if the freehub bearings are shot, then the correct action is a new freehub body (and you may need a new axle too, as they changed the freehub and axle, the newer axle had a blue spacer on the NDS, the old freehub no longer available, though you can drift out the freehub bearings and replace with likewise, you just need something like a small vice to set them back in the body, but not too tight (theres a metal spacer in the middle, and if that is too tight on the bearing it doesn't spin freely.

hope that helps

Thanks guys. I'll see if adjusting the tension works first then, nice one.
