My moon on a stick request...
Looks like i'll probably be after a new pair of shoes in the New Year, i tend to use one pair for all things: MTB (main use, lots of up & some techy downs), CX (winter), century road rides (one or two a year).
Currently have the Bontrager Rhythm, which are good stiffness wise, a bit narrow around the toes & a bit too well vented at the toe box:

Used to own a se of these Specialized Trail 120 SL, which i loved:

I'd like: stiff (but probably no need for carbon stiff), probably just need a shoe as opposed to a mid (but not totally against a mid), good walking sole, protected unvented front / toe box (don't mind side vents), rearward cleat option, prefer straps / ratchet & not to have laces, clipping into Shimano PD M520/40's pedals.
Looking for a bargain set in UK8, so i don't mind a good shoe that's an older version & discounted, although willing to pay up to £100 for something on trend & current.
Maybe a Shimano ME5 / 501...... but its gonna be too well vented i think, Giro Terraduro is a likely contender.
whats out there???
I use Shimano MT3 shoes. They may be a bit non-race style for your use but have a reasonably stiff sole, however are good to walk in too. Covered toes etc - good shower proof rather than fully waterproof. And pretty rugged for a bit of protection.
Summer shoes with neoprene overshoes does me happily enough all year round - -12C at the Puffer to +40C in Switzerland this summer.
These (linky) were a revelation when I first got them.

I've had some Shimano ME7 for a while now, and in but really manky conditions they've kept my feet warm and dry. Grippy soles, easy on and off, no hot spots. V happy with them. Otherwise, try Giro Terraduro, which are also v good, but less coverage means they're not quite 3 season. IME
As above from nickc recently got some Shimano Me701 from Wiggle who price matched Sigma sports who are selling new model for £109 ,newer model is no longer mesh outer so less water ingress and when worn with sealskinz socks kept my feet warm and dry. Lace flap keeps everything pretty clean, sole stiff but still comfortable and easy to walk in, fit good and got size 45, would say I am a 9.5 to 10 uk, room for thick socks still Plan on using these on gravel bike too. Recommended
Cheers all, food for thought there.
I've stumbled on these whilst trawling the web:

Can anyone shed any light on them? it's a bit weird that nothings coming up on Google except the Decathlon page for them, no old reviews, nothing from Giro, no magazine articles..... bit odd. Do Giro make them especially for Decathlon maybe.
It looks a good price, no toe mesh & reasonable protection, looks like a pre-cursor to the Terraduro, a kinda lo-mid.
Those Giros ^^ look the dogs nuts for that money.
I love my Gaerne Lapo's.
I have some Lake MX180 that are pretty much ideal for all weather except summer. Might be a bit heavy on a 100 mile road ride though
So, I've ordered the Giro Diversions from Decathlon @ £65 for a hands on look at them & to try them on. They got the thumbs up from a STWer I PM'd who did a PSA for them 9 months ago.
I'll report back when they arrive....
