Surely it’s no worse than hanging bikes from trees and taking photos!
Oh, well, fair play if he climbed up and retrieved it

Toons...

Surely it’s no worse than hanging bikes from trees and taking photos!

If you can find somewhere that folk chuck bikes up trees, let me know - I can see a change of career coming up!

The fact that the guy wasn't the first, or the last just means there are more inconsiderate folk out there...

No need!

I presume this chap wasn't the first to throw an inner tube into the tree and nor will he be the last.

Surely it’s no worse than hanging bikes from trees and taking photos!

Agreed.
Think people are going way over the top and getting carried away with what every one else is saying, yes, he needs a telling off but you lot seem to want to burn him to a stake! He hasn't murdered anyone... 🙄

I dunno. I'd never have done it but if a mate had done similar when I was 18, I'd probably have pointed and laughed. With age, comes an increased appreciation of the little that's left of our wild spaces and I reckon that's why the vid has touched a nerve here in stw land. Most of us are pretty ancient...

No.

Because you made that up, you see ?

Nobody really said anything like that did they ?

He hasn't murdered anyone...

And nobody said that either.

If you haven't already - head over to YT and tell him you think it's appalling behaviour.

Also - we have a clear mugshot so he's in line for a fine etc etc.

Difference in my day was that there was no internet so you could get away with more!

I love free inner tubes -if that was a bit nearer me I'd be riding out there to see if they are still there. 😀

There are some comments on pretty much every YouTube video that are worse than what he did.

But that's because YouTube comments are posted by brain donors.

Doesn't make it any less stupid to chuck stuff into trees.

The old cafe at Coed y Brenin had a bike thrown quite high up a tree.
It was still there the last time I looked.

It's a trail centre and some lads having a bit of fun. I view trail centres as a bit of a cess pit anyway. Afterall, how much damage has been done just to create the trail to start with?

Innertubes in trees is a good symbol for the place really. I guess it reminds every one of the thousands who cycle through there, tearing up the forest, of the damage they've caused.

If it was out in the middle of nowhere, in a beautiful area, then fair enough, I'd be knarked.

But I dont think any of you lot with your over priced bikes shipped all the way from the other side of the world, and your powerful cars that spew poisonous gas that you spend hours sat in just to ride your bike, can really take the moral high ground.

My biggest disappointment is that I, admittedly very naively, expect better from mountain bikers. I guess I always just assume that those who ride tend to have an environmental sympathy and generally don't think that it's cool to throw their unwanted junk into trees.

As a Gizzy regular, I would have loved to have seen him doing that... He certainly wouldn't have ridden another meter until that tube was back in his rucksac.

Clearly a very inexperienced rider - what sort of numpty punctures on Hully Gully???

Amen to that, Dave! This is exactly the rational behind my McDonalds littering at motorway services. If you think about the countryside that's been ripped apart be the motorway and the service station...meh, a bit of paper and card pales in comparison!

Double standards on stw. Where was the outrage when people on here were releasing balloons in to the air??

Yes I will still keep going on about it, a balloon stuck in the tree is no worse than an inner tube. Both are disgusting

It seems like we're dividing into two camps here.

Those who think it's alright to act like a ****ing peasant and those who don't.

I know which camp I'd rather be in.

Empty water bottles, gel wrappers and so on.......you brought it with you, take it home!

I think it's more that it's ok to disapprove of people releasing balloons in memory of a loved one (I'm guessing that's what you're on about here), but try not to be a sanctimonious arse about it.

Yes, but I think that's the intention.

No one reasonable would bring that up on this thread. Note use of the word 'reasonable'. The two are poles apart and if you can't see that then you are beyond help. If you can, you are trolling.

For me, this thread has run its course. If you want to act like a peasant and chuck rubbish around and think it's clever then you're a prat. Simple.

chakaping has it - plenty of us disapprove of releasing balloons even if its in memory of a loved one, but those of us mature enough to disapprove of such things also appreciate the insensitivity of commenting about it. If the chap in the vid in the OP was throwing his tube into the tree as a memorial, then clearly we've all been very insensitive.

Its not uncommon now to get Balloons for memorials that are made from Latex, which is biodegradable, But I still get your point.

STW would be a better place if the Mods gave a shite and stopped blatant trolling.

Anyway before I get into old man style rant I'm off to ride my bike. If I see a tube I'll be removing it.

Thinking about it most of my totally shot inner tubes get reused as chain stay protectors, soft shims etc. I once used one to mend a boiler - kept it going for a few weeks until I could get it replaced.

That's a useful resource that lad's chucking away.

When you upload videos to the Tube you can track where the hits are coming from - it's likely that he saw a great spike over the last few days from STW! At least the evidence is now gone before the Daily Mail or similar could get their hands on it and tarnish us all with the same brush.
