Nothing really grabbing my interest. The FTM carbon from On-one looks interesting but concerned about delivery time. Any suggestions?

For a grand? Not much in that price range these days. Heckler or Nukeproof Mega spring to mind.

Pace RC405?

This is a bargain if your size:

Saracen Ariel full build here http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/m15b5s1p4109/SARACEN_Ariel_1_Mens_Full_Suspension_Mountain_Bike_2010/RS_GB for 1k with fox rp23 rear shock and the rest is basic but fox forks are fitted so you could sell the rest and end up with a bargain frame. The stickers are removable too if you can't bear to ride a bike bearing the Saracen brand name!
decent review here:

Wiggle were knocking out 2010 Turner 5 Spots out for just over a grand - CRC were £1,600 for the same thing.

2010 De Vinci hectik direct from freeborn half price so way in budget. I'd have one tomorrow if I was in the market for a new frame. Better shock and a more sophisticated design than the heckler for less cash (writing as the owner of a single pivot bike and fan of the heckler).

For a little more you can get a yeti arc 5 alloy for £1350 from Freeflowbikes, just ask not to have the CK headset and bottom bracket.

Thanks for all the suggestions, definitely some to consider. A lot of them are too much travel for me, should have been more specific! Looking for 130mm-140mm really.

there were some run-out orange bloods (new) for a grand on one of the shops, seemed like a good deal

I'd go second hand for that money - maybe a Blur / Tracer / Meta, something like that.

You can get a 2010 meta 5 carbon from merlin for a grand. I've been tempted.

That Ariel looks good too.

Not sure where you live, but they have demo bikes at Freeborn. One ride would convince you!

Would be on this myself, even if it does stretch the budget

+1 for the Heckler!

Abuse abuse abuse abuse - 5 years old and only thing is my ever slackening lower shock mount bush
