I know it's not such a popular niche these days (was it ever?), but what 29x3 rubber is available/any good at the moment?

Maxxis Rekon showing on wiggle in a 2.8.
Been running the 27.5 versions for 6 years and they are great.
Had the 29x3 dirt wizard in my old Jones and they were amazing grip on the front, but not sure I’d want one on the back.
3” maxxis Mammoth was fast rolling but a rear only for me.

Anything Maxxis in a 2.8 is pretty good really. Ikon in that size is particularly surprising. Ran one all winter a few year back and it even handled snow quite well.
Don’t really show up on the discounters now, but lbs should be able to order. Miss nextdaytyres for these sorts of things.

Take a look at the Teravail Coronado. WTB Rangers have been good to me also.

WTB Vigilante in 2.8 is a great tyre.

Also, while on paper the 2.6 Trail boss isn't really a proper 29+ tyre it comes up big, and works well on a 40mm rim.

Bontrager xr2 and xr4 is where it's at for me now, tried others and these seem light for their size and pretty tough.

Also, as usual, tyre widths as stated can be very different to what they actually blow up to! These bontys seem pretty true to size.

I've got a DHF 29 x 3.0 on my RocketMAX. Great f front tyre but not sure if they're still available anywhere though.

Vittoria Cannoli come in 29*3.0 and can be had for a decent price on eBay - cheaper when you buy a few too. I've not used on the front yet, but the TNT tubeless version is an excellent rear tyre.

My Dirt Wizard (front) is in need of replacement, but the prices shocked me!

Bonty XR2 & XR4's. Is one a knobblier mud tyre?
