You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Typically just as everything is closing down I have found a suspected crack in my full suss frame. Warranty should cover it but can’t sort that until we are something like back to normal.
I had been looking at getting a hard tail so instead of the 650b I was going to build over time I’m now thinking 29er built with the parts off my full suss so I have something to ride.
I was seriously considering a Pace but having chatted with them I’d need a new crankset amongst other things so although I could afford the frame the extras make it out of reach for now.
So the question is, what 29” HT should I be looking at? Needs to use standard 73/68 BB, 30.9mm seat tube, boost rear wheel and have a ETT of around 650 or more in XL size. My current forks are 120mm but can be extended easy enough so anything up to 150mm can be considered. I’m happy to buy a few extra bits but my budget is really £5/600 all in and the frame has to be available during lock down.
Any ideas?
Sanderson Blitz perhaps :/
That would be great mate except for the 650b wheels, 31.6mm seat tube and short ETT though!😂
Thanks for the response though, I will have a look at those if I go back to 650b.👍
Why do you need a new crank for the Pace? What are you using?
Solaris max and a seat shim? Only £50 over budget
Orange P7 from Paul's Cycles ?
Lass at Pace says the current frame uses boost crankset.
Solaris defo a consideration but I have some strange love/hate with Cotic that I can’t really explain. I came to the conclusion that if spending that amount I’d just go Pace and buy the extras.
P7 was well on the radar but since I kept telling everyone about the cracking deal they’ve sold all the large and xl!
What about something a bit cheaper in a On-One Scandal 29er? Uses the same seat post diameter and takes a 100 to 130mm fork.
Could be a good budget frame for less then £200 till your able to sort your full sus frame out.
Woah !
The details flew right over my head there 😬
Note to self: must read fine print
🤣

What cranks and chainring are you running now?
You are aware that the difference between Boost and non Boost cranksets is all in the chainring offset right? That is to say, a new chainring may well be all you needed...
The q factor - distance between pedals does infact change between boost and non boost Cranks

Pipedream Moxie. Easily the best hardtail that I've owned.

Been looking at On One but they leave me cold for some reason. My mate loves his though.

Just the Raceface that came on my 2016 bike. I assume they're standard. Never really felt the need to find out about boost cranks so I may be able to work round it and bring the Pace back in to play. Ta!

Thanks, I'll educate myself.

Looks very interesting, thanks. Non in stock though.
Bird Zero 29 (and £5 seatpost shim)
They are shipping too.
Cheers for that, the Bird looks interesting. How stiff are they?
Deleted double post
Do you mean stiff as in harsh or stiff as in direct?
I love mine (also an XL), it's such a fun and capable bike. Running 2.5/2.6 tyres and comfort is not at issue, certainly never thought it was harsh.
I was thinking stiff/harsh really. I like steel HT's and worry about the more hardcore aluminium frames being boneshakers.
