@ Texas, think thats the same as the forca, another guy was selling them called traildrop or something as well. cheap but got to be wortha punt i'd say, it's cable actuated so what could go wrong..........

See ICE V8 thread, a variation of the forca/traildrop being officially imported and distributed.

Hard to see passed the direct-from-china Tmars for £65 though. I have a GD on one bike and am tempted to get a Tmars for the other just cos Im too bloody lazy to switch the GD over (which was the justification for buying it in the first place 😳 ).

The 2013 Tmars seems to have several improvements over the Forca/traildrop, with the ICE V8 having a few more tweaks on that.

Having read the description, it sounds like the post doesn't lock out completely. On the plus side it's more adjustable that the other cheap options

I've got a Hilo (£90 second hand) which seems to work well though it's very sensitive to the seat clamp being tightened

X fusion Hilo had over 12 months now and not touched it, my mate bought one 6 months ago as well and he has had no problems.

X fusion here as well, £100 second hand and is working well so far!

What is the Hilo like for bushing play? do they have any mechanism for controlling it?

Another vote for the X-Fusion, had mine about six months now and no problems with it.

No idea bout 'bushing play' I just sit on it and it works when I ask it to.

I haven't had mine long enough to comment for definite on bushing play but it's used (as it's second hand) and there's no play at the moment. The only thing I've noticed is that if I don't keep it lightly lubed ( a clean and a squirt of finish line XC after each ride) it does get squeaky and slower to return.

+1 for Gravity Dropper. Simple, mechanical and just works. And superb customer service, should anything go wrong.

Very pleased with my X-fusion hilo so far. It's only a few weeks old though so we'll se how it fares through the winter.

A bit of non-slip carbon paste avoids excessive tightening of the seat clamp so I've had no issues in that respect.

I have a Rase post - been pretty much bang on apart from the single bolt saddle clamp. Half-inch increments up to 8 inches in total. Has a bit of a wobble now but had 3yrs of (not super-muddy) use

Seems they're "about" (summer 2012 😕 ) to release a new model with a double bolt clamp (website not great on the subject, or for pics of it

Yep got a Forca/ice/OEM post on my Five. Quite clunky but very simple so should be OK for reliability. The only annoyance is the one drop position. I find dropping my post just a little is what I use most.

Two drop position on the new one. 75/100mm. So far 75mm seems good for trail riding. If I go to the DH tracks I think I'll just use my Thomson with an old saddle on.

Get a GD in CRC sale with added 10% off; about £150ish. Go for the turbo and you don't have to tap the saddle to actuate the post and it weighs less at 410g, although the classic is cheaper with a better cable route. The X-fusion is a porker in comparison and the same money with the discount.

I recommend a multi drop, the 1" down is very handy for half sitting/half technical stuff.

+1, use it a lot whenever it gets technical, was sceptical after converting from a joplin with 'infinite' adjustment to just 2 positions on the GD but slightly down and fully down is all I ever really used anyway.

Depends what you need. If you need it now, get a GD. If you can wait 4/5 months, you can wait for the KS Lev to land in the UK. Looks awesome. The GD is quite a bit lighter iirc, but fugly cable routing compared to LEV.

When measuring the GD, is the measurement the full length of the post fully extended or is it the length of the solid part alone?

The GD is measured from the end as a fully extended unit (tip-clamp IIRC).

sorry for hijack - I've seen a few posts suggesting you shouldn't use a shim with a dropper post. Is this just internet rumour or a genuine problem as I can't see why it matters as long as the shim is long enough to go past seat tube / top tube weld?

When I finally take the plunge I have no choice (bikes got 30.0mm seatpost).

No problem with shims. I think it is something that is floating around the internet about the Rockshox Reverb. Definitely no problem with the ICE V8 and shims. 2 year warranty if you have any issues too.

Had a hi-lo for 18 months. Sold with the bike. So it went through a winter (and this summer!) without a problem. Lubed it every so often, but otherwise not touched. There's a bit of side to side movement from new, but it never gets any worse and you don't notice it when sitting on the saddle.

Had a quick flick through this thread, but didn't noticed to much reference to the KS i7 dropper post, had mine a good 6 month, very little to no service just the usual clean after a ride, (and mostly muddy rides at that) been faultless, except for the remote, I find the remote ridiculously stiff, can do it with my thumb just about, but need to slow down and concentrate on it, so I end up not using it as much as I should, however I just gone back to the under the seat lever while I look at the remote mech, and it is working fanastically, make me wonder if the remote is actually worth the trouble.

It's quite heavy though with the remote it weighs 600g. But I would buy one again. Only because I wouldn't be patient enough for the KS Lev. That do look nice and would like one, but I'll believe when I see it in a 27.2 size 6 months ago it was supposed to be out and still no sign of them.

I you end up find a lev please post back with a review.

+1 for the KS i7. I've had mine for 2 years and its been faultless, very little maintenance, always make sure its cleaned and lubed after each ride, occasionally. I re grease it. Never had a problem running it through the winter slop.

Only time i had a problem with a stiff remote lever was due to a slack cable activating the post.
