I am looking at treating myself to some new wheels and adding gears and going 12 speed.

What is the 'go to' non boost 12 speed wheel compatible with micro-spine as I will more than likely use Shimano. It will be for trail, xc and bike packing?

I thought initially hunt but heard the rims are a bit fragile and nothing till end of July.

What else is there?

There was another thread recently comparing Hunt with some custom made (in Poland) Dt Swiss for the same money. Consensus was Dt Swiss.

Perhaps get some lightly used non-boost wheels with Hope Pro 4s and buy the new freehub (and endcap)?

There does seem to be a dearth of mid-range options. Are Shimano still licencing it, or is it free now?

Seems the only <£100 hub options are Shimano.

Can't seem to find the DT Swiss with old school 135 rear spacing.

Lightly used hope4's seem to go VERY fast at the moment. Would consider new but wondered if there were better options at the moment.

My assumption on looking was Shimano still licensing hence the lack of options.

Oh should say I don't want shimano wheels. Had xt wheels for a while and tbh I am bored of cup and cone.

Your problem here is non boost. I would say the vast majority of people fitting Shimano 12 speed will be running a boost frame so manufacturers will be offering their microspline wheels in Boost spacing.

The licence from Shimano is now really easy for manufacturers to get as its an agreement between the factory and Shimano not like the original licence agreement from Shimano which was between Shimano & the brand, it was only given to certain brands and there were a few different requirements in order to meet the licence requirements.
