Having had all our bikes nicked I need to get my son a mountain bike. Budget of £1000 (£1200 max). He had my old Yeti 5, which he loved. Looking at 27.5 wheels and 130mm / 140mm travel. A trail bike. He's 5'6" and growing fast.

Top of the list is:

Medium - with a 35mm stem would give him plenty of growing space.

Tried a Calibre Bossnut in the shop - prefers the cheaper ladies one. He (like me) would rather Shimano to Sram.

Anything else out there?

I have been looking second hand, without much luck. He'd love a SC 5010 but they seem to hold their value too much.

Lot of people buy the 'girls' bossnut, due to colour. The only diferences are a slightly narrower bar, colour and there is a tiny 'female' symbol on the seat tube down by the BB.
Cant go wrong!

second hand does buy lots of bike but that vitus is hard to ignore, it just needs a dropper post and its ready to roll!

I also have a box of 10 speed XT kit which I could put on it.

Over budget by quite a big percentage , but the RS and Marzocchi versions of the Mythique look even better VFM, the middling RS one in particular.

But it's SRAM.

I've no experience of polygon, my only qualm would be I've been bitten buying bikes with really good spec but not actually all that good frames (or at least not the frames I wanted/needed) before.

150mm travel is a lot less of a trail bike than 130mm is (IMO), although probably better at winch and plummet type stuff.

True. I suspect warranty support would also be better from CRC than an ebay seller.

That Polygon looks great, the geometry seemed decent when I looked at the 29ers a while ago so certainly worth investigating.

Or get the Bossnut and swap the Sram stuff for 12sp SLX mech & shifter?

an ebay seller.

It's the distributor.

Marin hawk hill and rift zone may fit the bill.

My lad has a Polygon Siskiu T8. It's been a great bike pity he's grown out it. It's been a really good around bike on the ups and downs. I can't keep up with him. Looking for a large version to replace in

It's a medium, currently up for sale at £750.😁

At the last minute we went for a bit of an upgrade, mostly swung by the better forks.

Lucky boy.
