Been using finish line green in the wet, sounds like a coffee grinder it picks up so much mud.
Anything handle puddles and pick up less sand? Was thinking Juice lubes or Muc off yellow.
Degrease fully and use a wax based lube like Squirt, works great on the beach.
Gt85 all the way here.
I have just bought a bottle of ScottOiler Ultimate Bike Solution, following raving recommendations from other local riders. I'm yet to try it, but apparently you apply it and leave it, wash your bike with just water after riding, then reapply and leave again. It sounds too good to be true, but my mates insist that it is, so I'll give it a go.
Wurth dry chain lube is pretty good in those sorts of conditions
+1 Squirt
Thing with oil lubes is they suck in dirt. Wet lube even more so and most people don't realise the "wet" doesn't mean to be used because it's raining or muddy. It's a thick wet consistency lube for use in extreme wet conditions to keep water off the chain. Best used on the road or if riding through rivers. Any hint of dirt and it will be sucked in. Read the descriptions of dry lubes and they are specified for use in wet conditions also.
But, wax lubes instead coat the inside of the rollers where the wear really occurs, keeping it lubricated but at the same time doesn't suck in dirt. Squirt is especially good at this. Just wipe off post ride and it'll be near shiny after a mud ride and the cassette won't be black with crud. Re-apply every now and again. Must degrease the chain fully before using Squirt though and you have to let it dry hard for a few minutes before riding. Also apparently you shouldn't let it freeze.

Said lube, not solvent 😉
don't laugh, but Halfords Pure. The white bio stuff, the running gear has never gone black. Bought it as that's all there was. Now its out of choice.
Woburn SANDS.
I agree with Squirt but for me only in the dry months, in the wet months I use RnR Extreme
As above Rock n roll extreme doesn't attract mud/grit like the oil based lubes.
Bolt
Anyone know used rock n roll gold vs extreme?
Just looking that up Cloudnine. Seems to be just 'better'.
Imagine its got boron, or ceramics wizardry in there. Probably not much real world benefit - Finish line white no better than finish line red or green - just halfway house.
Willing to be proved wrong mind.

Bought some rockn'roll blue. The quest for the holy grail continues. . .
I use fenwicks dry lube all year round, it goes on sparkly gold but dries black, can't think what it's called.
I used to use the muck off ceramic wet lube on my commuter but the chainrings used to get gunked up quite quickly and were a nightmare to clean up properly so it went in the bin and now with fenwicks it stays cleaner for longer and cleans up easier.
Can confirm rock'n'roll blue is awesome, albeit you end up putting a lot on. Lasts well when on, stay really clean. Win.
Chain- L is what I use year round. Great stuff.
I've been recommended Squirt Lube for this very same problem. Will report back after Christmas after I put in a few good rides.
Rock n roll extreme here for years, tried a couple of others but they don't compare.
Squirt is great until you reach just south if the lakes, anywhere north of there, it's absolutely bloody useless, unless you only ride for half an hour.
I use squirt and it's been really good. It is worth using a dedicated wet lube if it's going to be a very wet ride.
I find Muc-Off dry lube works OK. I tried Squirt after hearing repeated recommendations for it on th'internet, but found that it a) It wore off quite quickly (yes, chain was de-greased, and it was allowed to dry before riding) and b) turned my chain rusty! 🙁
After a few weeks and several tries, I gave up on Squirt and went back to the Muc-Off: This stuff
(The above was in wet & gritty conditions)
YMMV.
'Wet' lubes work, the trick is to clean/wipe the chain untill there's barely a trace left on the outside to attract the dirt.
Failing that, a tin of putoline wax is pretty tenacious and will never run out. Even on the shittiest rides it's done 20 miles. Most winters it only needs lube once a month/200miles of mud.
Stihl Chainsaw oil seems fine to me I just run the chain through a rag a few times when it's had a chance to penetrate the rollers. Even better if you can soak a cleaned chain in the oil overnight in a take away tray ( you can re-use the excess), let it drip dry and then wipe off the excess. 8 quid a litre.
Squirt here, works a treat. I doesn't pick up any sand and keeps the chain clean.
Works well in wet/winter too.
Chain L oil is my top favorite, and i have tried a lot. Bit hard to find, but worth it.

This is my chain after a quick hose down with water... After using the scottoiler ultimate stuff... Is like magic... Squirt etc all failed miserably for me...
carlphillips - that looks good. I recently bought some of the Scottoiler UBS stuff, but am unsure about how best to use it. What is your method? Yes, I know it has instructions on the bottle, but some real world experience would be great. Many thanks and Happy Christmas.

This is what I found too. It was getting washed off too easily after a few river crossings.
I use White Lightening Epic Ride, it's a compromise but better than a full on wet lube.
After trying most of the above I'm back with GT85. Just reapply after a wet ride. £2 in aldi too!
domderbyshire - I've been using UBS for a couple of months now. I was just wrapping something round the rotor and caliper then spraying the chain, chain set and mechs quite liberally. Latterly I've been dripping it onto the chain and mech with a small dropper bottle. Same result, less waste.
Squirt +1
thegreatape - thanks for that. I'll give it a go.
I gave Squirt a try in the wet weather having spent ages cleaning the chain and drying, applying then second application letting each layer cure......one muddy soaking wet local ride..........bone dry chain followed by mud sticking and next morning a good layer of rust!
I can use RnR Extreme in Spring to Autumn but still find in really bad conditions on longer rides it's not enough.
Returned to my default winter lube of Muc Off C3 and clean the chai set etc after each long ride to prevent any black drivetrain issues....apart from the SS then it's a top up application if the chains looking dry 😆
As stated above I now use a small dropper bottle to apply on the chain.
If I am using it on the frame I spray onto a sponge then wipe over. Seems an awful waste to liberally spray it everywhere.
It's amazing stuff.
So you apply pre-ride and simply spray off with water afterwards, let dry and reapply?
This works a treat and lasts for ages as well.
