wet mud, when hit by a bike tyre, splits, then falls back into place, leaving little or no damage.

If your wet mud is in a bowl of stone or similiar, sure. If not, no- the tyre won't just affect the mud, it'll shift the water around and stir up the more solid soil at the bottom, helping make more mud.
