Adult friendly activity required around st Ives area. Done the galleries, Tate is closed, done a lot of drinking, surf is rubbish, any suggestions? Or just gorge on cream teas?

Drive out to Cape Cornwall, stop at the North Inn in Pendeen for lunch on the way. If you fancy it the mines in Levant are interesting and on the way too.

Poldark mine?

Flambards? All the indoor stuff is quite adult orientated but bores the tits off the kids.

We came home last night on the strength of todays forecast, (we where staying in Portowan).
We were due to come home Wednesday anyway.
Riding on the Quantocks this morning before the rain arrives. 🙂

Do a bit of social research. Find out how the Cornish now feel about Out. Could be quite entertaining.

Sadly, coming from Wales I used to do a fair bit of that anyway 🙁 😆

Cheers for the other suggestions

Don't bother with Poldark....
Trip up to Pendeen and Leylant for the mines there.
Eden if you've not done it is a OK Visit.
Falmouth maritime museum.
Pass 15/20 mins out Heartlands but Park in Tesco as the car park is a rip off...
Helston Folk museum is nice but small.

Cheers, Steve

Falmouth maritime museum.

Did that Friday, didn't do much for me.
I would have liked to look around St Michael's Mount but we had the dog with us so we weren't allowed in the house or gardens (and there was a twenty five minute wait for a pasty).

There's a car park? I thought everyone just parked on the street as close to the engine house as possible, the estate hasn't been handed over to the council yet so there are no wardens patrolling. The museum is quite good and fairly well done.
I like the maritime museum in Falmouth and there are plenty of good places to eat nearby.

I was thinking about st Michaels mount actually for tomorrow, haven't been there since I was about 10 and my only memory is finding the biggest crab on the causeway. figured I'd get a surf in at Praa afterwards. How much of the tide is the causeway open, low is early morning

At the moment the winning activity is just watching the guardian live blog with morbid fascination as currencies, institutions and politicians all fall on their swords 😆

Rainy days in Cornwall are cliff walk days aren't they. That's how I was raised.

I don't think you could have picked a worse day for St Michael's Mount, tide-wise.
You could always go by boat though.

You can't spend a week in the West Country without some rain ! I am a little surprised you didn't think of that, apologies if thats a bit aggressive. Maritime museum at Falmouth ? Also not sure of forecast but short sharp heavy rain can have a lot of clear skies and sunshine an hour or so after

Yeah not really rained to much today to be fair. Drizzling now but not too bad, more tomorrow wondering about.

@doctorgnazhoidz - you and me both, but living on the Welsh coast I get my fill of rainy coastal walks away from holiday!

@Jambalaya, I thought we weren't allowed to think of the future any more in the dis-United kingdom

🙂 lets keep the politics in the politics threads. As Jam bo says if its heavy rain it should clear out, drizzy stuff can hang around of course. Falmouth Maritime museum is good although I am biased as I love boats. Pays to use the Mark 1 Eyeball for weather, forecasts are one thing reality another

XC weather shows ok-ish in the morning with best weather on Southern coast, dodgy afternoon and good again by the evening - so perhaps only a few hours indoors needed.

Here in Truro it's just mizzle right now, there's a reputedly good museum (never actually been!) and the best burritos in the country at Craftworks on Lemon Quay.

Yup, Cape Cornwall, lunch at the chippy in St Just or the dog-friendly pub next door. On the way back, stop at Botallack and walk down to the old mine workings. Levant mines a bit grim unless you fancy industrial wastelands. There's also some stone-age ruins to explore between St Just and Penzance - in a grovelly, wind and rain-swept manner

The weather looks quite good on the Porthtowan surfcams at the moment, a bit windy.
Just started raining in the last half hour here on the Quantocks.

I thought the default option for anybody within 100 miles of it was to pile into the Eden project on a rainy day. Certainly feels like it whenever I am there on a rainy day 😉

Cleared up here on top of the hill in Portreath, windy though.

I'd go to the Telegraph Museum in Porthcurno, though I'm biased as I work there. Genuinely fascinating place, just up from a gorgeous beach for when the weather clears, and it's got secret wartime tunnels. What's not to like?
