I have a two day window on tues/weds and thinking of heading up to wales mid/south

Does anyone have any gpx/komoot gravel rides they would like to share?

Either two good one day loops (as I can kip in my van) or if it’s a bigger route, I can bivvy overnight

Many thanks

Check out the Elan Valley/Llyn Brianne area, there are some incredible routes on old roads/tracks and forestry roads around there. You can park at the Elan valley Visitor Centre.

Also worth a look are the forestry roads around Resolven, Afan and Rhondda in S.Wales.

Excellent, good starting point, thanks
I think two big 50 odd mile routes, with a night in the van would be better than trying to work out a really big loop.
I don’t know the area at all for biking.

Not a huge amount of actual gravel in South Wales, but quite a lot of jeep type tracks - they are just a bit rocky to be much fun on 32c tyres. I've got a few 60 miler types starting from Cardiff if you like.

South Wales, Sustrans route 47 will take you from Pontypridd to Afan (with the bit from Llanwonno to Afan all Forestry fire roads / gravel) with a map from Afan its not to difficult to follow more forestry tracks to get up onto the Black Mountain (Nav can be a bit sketch across the top) from there with a bit of road from the Black Mountain to Llandovery and Llyn Brianne you can get into the Forestry roads over to Strata Florida where it all opens up to the Elan Valley side / further North to Nant y moch res etc, Mach, Dolgellau....Rhyl.

If you've got a map and a decent sense of direction the place is your lobster with a few Bothies on route to save packing to much overnight kit.

I do miss those days...

Jeepers, it even looks Sunny on those days at the moment, get out overnight and make the most of it! It'll not be dry two days in a row again until around Easter 🙂

Sorry no GPS routes to share.

There was a thread on this subject a few years back - may be of interest.
