And ordered an 853 frame to race on next year. I re read lots of old posts about why you shouldn't race steel, then thought bigger it I ain't G or Ben Swift. I'm 55 and happy to come top ten each week.
Genesis Volare 853 with Enve fork.
I've let my heart decide, won't it be nice if it's a pleasant surprise 🙂

I coach one of the Madison Genesis riders, Alex Peters, and he has always said that the Volare is a decent race bike. The frames are a bit heavier than carbon but ride nicely, and with minimum weight limit the overall bike is the same weight as carbon team bikes. Alex won the Tour of the Reservoir on the steel frame, podiums at Tour series criteriums, and came second on GC at the Ras in Ireland. It's not all about the bike!*

*they do have a new carbon bike for the Tour of Britain though.

Mrblobby, SRAM Force, standard with 11-23. Deda Superzero carbon finishing kit. Giant PSL-R1 (DT Swiss)scandium tubeless with Veloflex. Flite, LOOKs.
Should be bit lighter than the 9.8lb basic equipped 105 model?

It looks beautiful. I love the paint matching the Reynolds sticker.

If it rides as nicely as it looks...

Well Done, also know a genesis ride and they said it's a really nice bike.
Yes there is a new carbon bike out, but it aimed for the long stage races, they still plan to use the 853/metal frames for crits etc as it a very tough frame.

I also a firm believer that a well made/high end metal frame (Ali/Steel/Ti) gives a WAY BETTER ride than any cheap/mid range carbon frame. Think to many people are also blinkered by "carbon"

Oh I also know more riders going back to Metal frames to race on as they have seen a far few carbon frame break in the last lap free for all sprint crashes.

I keep looking at those frames too. Not that I have anything like the speed to get the best out of one.

They are probably the ultimate evolution of the production steel bike, and therefore highly desirable for that alone.

Or maybe the 953? 🙂

I don't race any more it but my 853 bike still is fabulous to ride. I'm sure you will like the 853. In racing it's the legs that count.

I saw the Volare 853 on ebay for a fantastic price, but already have a Kinesis Aithein which when finished will look quite similar to the photo in TrickyDisco's post.

That photo doesn't do the bright orange justice!

Thursday and it's mine. Quite excited, the gumph says 9.3kg with 105 and cheap wheels, my kit will shave off 1kg straight away. All my other stuff will knock off about...600/700g so a steel in the mid sevens, not too shabby.

It'll have to wait a bit. Off to Belgium next week. Home for a bit then off to the Pyrenees. Then it's CX right through to January.

Oldgit - a bit OT, but how do you find the CX translates to road racing fitness?

Not very well, in my case. But, the time of year doesn't help. It's usually train over winter, 'then' road race and then cross. I find CX too short and erratic to maintain road fitness. Is that what you meant?

Kuco that's the one.
