I bought myself a set of 2.25 maxxis advantages recently.
Now those are some beefy tyres! They replaced a set of 2.2 conti Mountain Kings and they dwarf them.
Anyway, I got a little bit of tyre rub on the chainstay with them, but only when climbing standing up. Won't be a problem, I thought. Once the tyre wears down a bit it'll stop.
I was giving it a clean last night and had the back wheel off. Bugger me, but the rubber appears to have worn a small groove into the left side chainstay! Looks to me to be definitely through the paint and into the metal.
Basically, this is a very long winded way of asking, will I die?
will I die?
yes, although probably not as a result of this incident.
probably best to go back to some skinnier tyres in the meantime, though.
I've seen a chainstay sawn half through due to tyre rub, take it off asap
Edit, it's not the tyre itself, it's bits of grit, sand ect' stuck to the tyre that does it, think big grinding wheel
Needs a photo this thread does.
