Weird melted bumper, Any ideas

I'm the only driver and haven't hit anything, no saying no one has hit me, especially round here and with a hot exhaust

Old damage which has emerged with age - and someone heated it to return it to shape perhaps?

My money is also on a nearby exhaust - possibly a vehicle left idling nearby for a little while.

Same here with schools. Live near a primary school and between about 8am and 8.45 the main road and a couple of side roads are just jammed with vehicles sitting with engines idling.

A hot exhaust is going to have to be sitting touching the bumper to do that though...exhaust fumes are hot, but they aren't hot enough to melt bumpers unless it has been subjected to that for a few hours.
Aware a hot exhaust can burst bike tyres but again that takes quite a bit of time and the exhaust has been closed and direct against the tyre.
Saying all that, the internal stuff appears fine, so I've nothing else to attempt to offer.

It's possible to restore tired bumpers like that using a blowlamp. If it wasn't yours I'd guess someone had a go but made a mess of it.

At this time of year I could be reflected sunlight from something that has acted like a condensing mirror.

I was at an event in France once where a farmers field was being used for parking, it was a scorcher of a day and and reflected like off the car mirrors seemed too be igniting old dry cow pats. I also know someone who house fire was caused by a shaving mirror on the window sill on a sunny day.

An exhaust would have to be almost touching to damage it in such a small area, also you'd expect some soot marks.  We've done it at work a few times when being careless with the exhausts of little generators and compressors and they tend to just melt a hole straight through the bumper rather than make it go saggy.

Looking at the general state of the bumpers and the marks on the inside, I reckon a previous owner has heatgunned them back to black and overheated this area to pop out that section of bumper.

A thorough clean, fading over time or perhaps the hot weather last week has revealed it.  Polytrol is really good at getting bumpers back to black, I did my van a couple of years ago and it still looks pretty good, no light grey plastic. Much better than overpriced aerosols from Halfords.

It's a short term bodge that draws the oils from within  to the surface temporarily for the uv to remove -making the bumper brittle .

Or less likely, a repair that has got more visible with age. Maybe some bumper back to black has faded away?
