Trains & railways this week.

Not exactly a new rule, but if you take a picture that others might find interesting, say where and what it is.

The rules;
1. Take a photo of your bike with something that matches the theme in the picture.
2. Interpret the theme any way you like.
3. Pictures should be taken between the dates in the topic title.
4. If you post a picture you can either suggest a theme for next weeks challenge or vote for someone else's suggestion. First suggestion to get two supporting votes becomes next weeks theme, probably

Trains & railways is too easy for me, I cross the Severn Valley Railway four times a day on my commute.
So, I went for something a bit different that runs on rails.
Tram Street, with added graffiti, in Kidderminster.

Disused tunnels a bit further up the track

This used to be an old rail/tram track, opened mid 1800s,now its sustrans 46(I think),shame they couldn't have sent the cycle track through the tunnels.

One of the places where it all started:

[img] [/img]

This is the birthplace of George Stephenson

It's on the remains of the Scotswood - Wylam line.

Later this year the waggon-way will see its first train for 40 odd years.

Tramp Street sounds like my kinda street!

South Devon Line 'twixt Totnes (Lttlehempston) and Buckfastleigh.

Staverton Level Crossing:
[img] [/img]

Random train (from the Mad Max universe too, by it's markings): 😉
[img] [/img]

Enjoying the links people are posting, it adds to the arm-chair-tourist nature of this kinda thread.

After a tough week at work I finished early today and went for a little pootle to take a few 'railway' pictures. The line is between Bolton and Blackburn and to find out a bit more then i have included the ride on my blog here:

Witton Weavers

The first place of call was the Armsgrove Viaduct which crosses Bradshaw Brook and the Wayoh Reservoir:

[img] [/img]

Next, a level crossing by the now long-gone Turton Station:

[img] [/img]

On to a bridge at Turton Tower. Its actually a folly and has no connection to a medieval castle whatsoever!

[img] [/img]

and finally the real reason for the ride..

Had a bit of a eureka moment today 😆
You know when something is right under your nose, you pass by it most days, especially when at work?
Well today was one of them 💡

I cycle along here at some point most days:
Caledonian cycle path

Paddy Line. Dumfries to Stranraer

This is the cycle/pedestrian bridge over the Dumfries bypass replacing the old railway bridge.

Paddy line to Stranraer by john_henry_mtb, on Flickr

Today on my quick blast between night shifts I had THE "moment"
36yrs ago I was offered a job here....
I waited ages for confirmation and a start date. When the letter came it was notification that the plant I was to start in would be closing and there were no new jobs!!
A year later however I got a job in another plant on the site, owned by ICI then and now Dupont.
I have been cycling past the remains of this line for all that time and only remembered today....doh 😳
This is the viaduct which is blocking the access to the plant/site due to safety concerns over the condition of the bridge and issues within the plant. If Sustrans could they would open this and the rest of the line all the way to Stranraer.

Viaduct/bridge;

Paddy line to Nobel by john_henry_mtb, on Flickr

Gate blocking way to old ICI Nobel site:

Paddy line to Nobel1 by john_henry_mtb, on Flickr

My workplace is at the wee chimney in the background along with the puff of steam.
Mabie is in the background 😆

Water is good but could be a safer bet when we get stuck for ideas.
Spring could work...

This looks a bit of a heap now, it's an abandoned signal box on a disused branch line near Alcester

We've never had negative votes before. I didn't know how to deal with them, so I ignored them. 😛
