I didn't see any other threads so i'll kick it off.... Grey start with a brisk wind and some blustery showers that blew through to leave a stunning very warm and sweaty morning. Still no standing water out on the trails which are still baked solid (13 years ago almost to the day I had the wheel stuck up to the back axle in mud 🙂 )

Just debating with my mate now if we're going out tonight, dry forecast now and 22'C so it would be a shame not to and the wind will just make it atmospheric in the dark in the trees. I love a bit of weather.

No mates to ride with again today ..at least 3 recovering from injury ..and two in seperate locations North of the border with their better half on non mtb jaunts ..

Started in Blanchland today and shared my initial trip over to Slaley Forest ..with two sets of motor bike trail riders ..even holding a gate open for one group as they were riding legally on this B.O.A.T.

Further in to the ride I saw the same group set off on one of my favourite bridleways in these parts " Carriers Way " and was gutted to see what sort of damage they were going to inflict..but credit where it's due ..once they realised they were on a b/ w they turned back!

Really enjoyed the ride if not the peace & quiet that usually accompanies it ...😎

Nasty wet today and my foot's flared up for the first time in years, so no riding this weekend. Did find something to do to pass the time though...

Hid inside all weekend after a short holiday to the Peaks, the actual riding was closer to last weekend.

Monday I did a loop from Edale over Mam Tor to Hayfield and back by Jacob's Ladder, ended up being about 40km and 1300m climbing (my local rides usually have 2-300m...). Admittedly a fair bit of it was done on foot, especially with the strength of the wind. I'm pleased with how well I coped with the technical descents, they were exhausting but a lot of fun. This time last year I was walking rather than doing small drops and rocky ground in the Yorkshire Dales.

Wednesday I headed in the other direction around Ladybower Reservoir, similar distance but a bit less climbing and (mostly) gentler descents. Felt like summer with no wind, beautiful views and I met a grouse that came within arms reach and walked along beside me for about 5 minutes (is that normal?).

100km on the road to Jodrell Bank with my new club, turned into 20km of everyone getting pissed off with the freezing cold rain so we had a bacon butty and a coffee and rode the 20km home.

Turns out Stolen Goat Orkaan jerseys are ok in showers but not in torrential rain.

Been out today for the Classic Conwy Mountain loop with a cheeky thrown in for good measure, 43km and almost 1700m elevation. .

Quite a lot of standing water = soaked feet and arse.  Coming off the Drum was great as always. No wind and left the mist at the top, the grassy bit was... err .. interesting at speed😳

Yeah, I've had that quite a few times - they seem very sociable when they're young.

No riding for me sadly this weekend

Howsyourdad, yes mate, he was racing in the Mini Enduro at FoD, he got a 3rd in his age cat and a 4th overall.

I was just really impressed with his pic and commitment in it...

Calderdale Mountain Bike Marathon for us on Sunday, after the late cancellation of Evans' Cannock Chase event on Saturday.

It rained every minute of the day and was pretty tough this year, with a good number of riders dropping out. We had a great ride and we finished at just over the 3.5 hour mark, 20 minutes quicker than the previous year despite a tougher route (last year's had a diversion) and miserable weather. Great event and remains a real favourite of ours.

Took nearly 2 hours to clean the kit when I got home though...that wasn't a whole lot of fun!

The BearBones 200. A rather damp 200km (the clue's in the name) ride around Mid-Wales. Torrential rain and high winds for most of Saturday, a bit drier from around midnight. Finished at 0620 on Sunday morning after 21hr20mins on the go.

I had about 90mins kip in the car then loads of tea in the community centre that serves as event base whilst waiting for my wife to finish. She finished in a total time of 29hrs30 having kept going through the night as well.

You did a 20+ hour with the wife and left her to do it alone ? LOL.... I find that a little strange personally.

She's more than capable of looking after herself. It's an individual challenge though obviously at risky points of the route you watch out for other riders.

I had a demo on this! Currently sat trying to decide if I should wait and ride the 650b version when it arrives or spunk the extra and go 29er. Now, what spokes for a 29er wheel...........

Why? It's a challenge (not one I'd ever do) to see how quickly you can do these things and she's a grown woman who knows what she's doing.

I have no doubt she does.... Just seems to me like something you'd want to share and endure together.

Weeksy..I guess that all depends on how you entered ..

I'm assuming ( I don't know ) that there were different categories within the event ..and the only time I would find that strange would be if they had entered as a mixed couple ..in which case I would be giving the missus a right chewing for dragging the average time down 😂

Well Done to Mrs Whitestone too ..

While we are at it well done to Weeksy jnr.too..he's turning into quite the young boy racer !

I ran away to the New Forest for a bit of 'me time'..... Was planning the "Dave Barter GBBR New Forest" route on sat, and the New Forest XC on Sun..

Headed up Friday night and had a chilled evening in my tent alone!

Heavy rain overnight, but was fairly modest in the morning. Headed out on the Tripster wearing far too much, and wished i didn't have my Morvelo Stormshield bibs on!!
However, was a lovely chilled 140km in the fairly flat forest...

Got back to the warmest most pleasant evening in a while!

A bit of tea and drinks, and just chilled listening to podcasts...

Overnight was torrential rain... kept waking me through the night!
In the morning i was in a grump - everything was damp and cold...

However, I'd stuck the mudguards on the singlespeed, so just got on with it!!
Race was good - managed 8 laps, and was first SS across the line...

All in all, a good weekend!!

DrP

The Banshee was broken so I took the old bike out. It's still a weapon on the right trail.

This was not that trail.

Didn’t bother with any pictures this weekend, but luckily the cotic count is already high enough on this thread 🙂

There is one square on the map that I’ve been trying to bag for ages. OS map shows a bit of trail, but I can never get to it. So this weekend involved lugging the bike over gates, through cow fields and over/through a ton of fallen trees and overgrown sections, just to ride a few hundred yards of trail followed by a few miles on the road in the pouring rain to get back to the car. Not one for the guide books, but I find these challenges strangely addictive and quite enjoyable really. Must be mad.

More half term fun.

High Burnside fun yesterday.

Local trail run this morning and ride with just mrs_oab today, refreshing to not have any mini_oab's in tow. Fabulous autumn.
