beating hodgy to it this weekend ;op

A quick scan of the weather looks to be mostly dry and temps in the mid teens. Woo and indeed hoo!
My wife is opening a new business in 3 weeks so I have been restricted to night rides until later in the year. She does let me lie in though so it's not all bad. 2 local night rides planned for Saturday and Sunday, it'll be hard pack paths and bridleways on the 29er until the slop in the woods dry out.
Where you off this weekend then?

Good man Jekkyl....😁

Based purely on which area had the best weather this weekend it looks like being Hamsterley for myself & Jaco ( only a 16% chance of rain dontcha know..haha) ...and possibly my son Alex (15 ) if the stars align and he can force himself out of bed ..

We were supposed to be going to Mabie today ..but when I awoke at 6.00am to start packing bikes & kit I noticed he had interrupted his PS4 activities from the early hours to send me a txt (!!!) claiming he couldn't make it ..so I'm not holding my breath ...

I would love to be doing a moorland ride instead ..but not in this slop..

Not the best start to the weekend, had to miss the after work MTB ride as I'd left my maxle at home, so had to drive home without riding.Did manage a ride on the CX from home instead.

Lakes tomorrow and Hustwoods-Hebden area on Sunday.

Had a nice ride in the sunshine at Cannock this morning, which was very nice if a little (read a lot) puddley. Tomorrow I'm in the Peak riding with a friend that I've not ridden with for a while.

Sitting in the sun at kirkby Stephen station. Rode up from Skipton.bit sloppy!

I think that was you I passed on the top of Cam High Road. I only saw five mountain bikers all day. One or two places were sloppy but there were a surprising number of hard dry tracks as well.

The Peak tomorrow. Ladybower or Edale/Kinder or bits of both depending on weather and legs.

Very short (6km) little road bimble today - first shakedown ride for the finally finished bamboo road bike. It didn't fall apart and I didn't die so all good. Still some snagging to do but it all seems to work mostly as it should.

Drove from Aberdeen to Torridon on Friday morning straight after nightshift. Had a wee kip in my car and then did a quick loop to get in the descent to Achnashellach........it’s as good as ever. Today was just the classic loop with a couple of pints at The Torridon Inn.

After two days of riding, sleeping in my car and washing with wet wipes I well and truely stunk.

Really? I thought it was Stu Rider! 🙂

Apologies for saying 'Hi Stu' in my delirium...

Cam Road to Hawes was utterly disgusting, as were parts of the Highway going north. Thanks, 4x4 drivers of North Yorks/Cumbria...

Pissed off one convoy by overtaking them on the grass after Hell Gill as they lurched around in the ruts. One of them desperately tried to get back in front before the descent 🙂

just in from a lovely twilight ride, lots of wildlife about; bats chasing insects, I saw a badger and an owl..swooping over the fallow field, always rabbits of course and some Toads giving/getting a piggy back!

As mentioned above ..we had intended going to Hamsterley today due to the type of weather forecast ..however having got as far as The Manor House Pub on the A68 and with it being such a beautiful day I pulled over and contacted Jaco and those plans were scrapped in favour of doing a Bolts Law ride ( an alternative to the classic) .

As expected my son Alex didn't make it ..having had to shout at him at 3.00am to get off the bloody PlayStation ...

This version is a "cheeky " so there is a chance of conflict with landowners on certain sections ( I will highlight where) ..and if you want to race around you could easily knock a couple of hours off the time we took as we had a leisurely cafe stop at Parkhead Station ..and another " lunch break " at the old engine workings above Rookhope..

We started the route in Edmundbyers and I forgot to switch on Viewranger ..but I'm sure you can join it up !

I'm sharing my #OffRoadBiking trip with you. Total distance 29.3 km, http://my.viewranger.com/track/details/NzIxOTEzMg== . Via @ViewRanger.

The naughty bits ..shortly after starting the ride ..the lengthy section from GR : NZ018 494 all the way until you join the C2C route at Grid ref : NZ 028 452. ..We personally have never been confronted on this section..yet !

The other hot spot where we have ..but always after we have ridden it is the shooters track from grid ref : NZ 950 446 to NZ 938 448..the estate manager does not like you on this section !

The alternative here ..especially in shooting season is to drop down to Rookhope along to Litzgarth and a steep and lengthy road climb to link you to the Bolts Law bridleway ..your call on the day !

@MartinHutch - Ah! So that's what you said, had me confused and couldn't work it out. Don't let Stu know - he's a lot slimmer than me 🙂

The Cam Road down to Hawes is always wet. Didn't realise that 4x4s were allowed on the Highway, I suppose with Mastiles and other green lanes having been closed to them a few years ago it's concentrated usage on the remaining lanes.

Don't mind that, but there's a section which has utterly churned up and destroyed - six foot deep full width mega-rut which is totally impassable on bike. Looks like the top of Deadman's Hill at Scar House did a couple of years back before the temporary TRO. Needs the same - a total break from motorised traffic and some repairs.

The stuff on the Highway is OK, at least the 4x4s stick to the train-track rut they've created and I can ride on the grass to the side. It's like watching Scalectric on mud. Not sure their vision of 'One Life - Live It' includes getting passed by some middle-aged bloke on a full-susser at 5mph though. 🙂

Took son no1 to Mabie to ride the red trail. Lewis is has no fitness or muscle strength so the 11mile ride knackered the wee runt out and he fell asleep on the way home. Wasn't impressed with the signage at the start and promptly got lost ha ha ha. I'm unlikely to ride Mabie again. The downs are not worth the climbs and Lewis felt the same way. If you are local it would make for a good XC ride. Some of the features were good fun.

I took one pic last night. Day off tomorrow to ride Jacob's ladder and the sun's forecast so hopefully I'll get some better pictures then.

A lot less adventurous that others, but first time out on the bike in about 6 months for me, with a quick jaunt round the Woburn back woods.

Where i found i was slow uphill, slow downhill, well, just slow everywhere really. I also seem to have forgotten how to ride properly as well ;-(

Still, bike looks good eh:

Ended up being just the classic Ladybower loop. Wet under wheel (and above head for the last 20 minutes). Treated to some classic rave sounds half way round. Managed to rip the tissue thin sidewalls of the WTB Rangers on the first descent, luckily a riding mate brought some worms with him...

Birnam and Dunkeld today - in warm sunshine!

Eldest_oab went with the bike club to north, soggy side of hill, to session some of the enduro tracks,

Youngest_oab and I went south side, quarry area. WARM! Shorts and t-shirt and too warm for first time this year. Great wildlife - spot the lizard - bees, birds of all sorts. Ace.

Lewis kept stopping to move beasties off the trail when he was walking up some of the climbs. Saw a couple of deer too.

This handsome dude was either a poseur or a decoy trying to lure me away from a ground nest ..sadly when I went to check it out ..not even a drop of whisky in sight..

Managed two rides this weekend-

Just shy of 40 miles and 3500' climbing on the road from the door to Buttermere, Newlands, Whinlatter and back home-

And just up the coast with little miss breadcrumb-

It's been a good weekend. 😁

Happiest ride of the year so far... wasn't a hard ride, just a bimble about over Redlands and Ranmore on the gravel bike, but with some lovely views, and nattering with lots of people along the way.
