okay you gorgeous gang where you off to this weekend on 2 wheels in the mostly dry, mostly double figure temps?

I'm at work at the with the bike in the back of my car as planning a quick peak district loop straight after work. Also out with my mate Saturday night over Mowcop! (local road and off road) there may or may not be some pints consumed after. Have a good one all!

Off out in a minute, Bit of Ridgeway to Goring, then up from there towards Checkendon, into the woods up there then over to Whitchurch, then down to Pangbourne, then from there up to Ashampstead and finally Hampstead Norrys then home... Will be 3.5 hours and 80% trails/woods.... If we get there in time we'll stop in Pangbourne for Costa coffee, which closes at 6.30... and cake of course... more cake !

Arkose has been in the shop for a week, so will be testing out the shiny new gear cables, chain, bottom bracket, bar tape and general "just-serviced" loveliness by taking somewhere on the North Downs.

Brizzle bike jumble tomorrow, hopefully raise some funds and maybe buy some bits for the ongoing tourer build.

Probably get out Sunday, probably roady but you never know, I might dust off the MTB for it's first outing since October...

Early finish today so rode over to parents. Took this pic to show Spring is definitely here down South. Will probably be it for this weekend as need to take it easy on the wrist and a cold in chest and feeling low in energy.

Snowdon - Saturday
Nant-Y-Arin - Sunday

A weekend full of win. Third attempt at Snowdon. First one literally blown off the mountain 3/4 of the way up. Mate picked his bike up to get it over a rock and was blown sideways. Cracked a rib. We decided discretion etc... second time snow, ice and hail. Sat in Pete's Eats and thought naaaa.

Forecast for tomorrow however..... shhh 🙂

BMX track tomorrow for a coaching session on my new second hand intense cruiser (maybe my favouritest bike EVER). Perhaps a cheeky spin out on the mtb in the evening. Sunday is a write off as I'm at Wembley to support the mighty yellows.

Just rode cannock with my dad for only the 2nd time and loved it. Nice change from the perpetual mud and loose rocks of the peak. Probably the most fun I've had on my carbon camber since i bought it. I will certainly be back soon.

Market Harborough festival of cycling 100k on Sunday. Riding the roads I frequented as a 15 year old on my Raleigh Maverick 15 speed. All on road, bit worried about the distance but should be a blast from the past!

Still riding steel, but drop bars and 18 gears now - still a bit retro and 32c tyres not that much thinner than the ones on the Maverick if I remember correctly...

I've come up to north Wales (Llanberis) to see what all the fuss is about. Going to have a crack at the Pen-y-pass classic tomorrow morning (road) while looking at the big hills, then consider options for the afternoon. @Alex, what time are you setting off for Snowdon? Good luck with that - it's breezy and wet here in Llanberis.

Sorry, don't use any tracking stuff, could pull it from Strava i guess if that's any use? Was 51km in the end, loads of woods, trails, just damn fine riding, trails were exceptional condition, mostly dry.
Stopped at a cafe in Pangbourne for coffee and cake, then a small road section.
Assuming it's dry, we'll be doing similar next Fri about 4pm if you want to come out.

I've been working in Wales all week - it rained, whilst everyone else was having nice weather (ok, we got a bit of sunshine). Came home to Derbyshire, expecting a cracking weekend and some much needed riding. Guess what - it's bloody raining!

A nice and dry'ish ride at Pitfichie today. All the trails are running well at the moment.

No doubt it is going to piss it down just in time for all the Enduro'ists in a few weeks time.

I'll probably ride local again tomorrow to take advantage of the unusually dry trails at this time of year.

Just a road ride round saddleworth today. I'm out to celebrate my 40th tonight, then getting a tattoo on my calf finished next week so I'm not riding for a few weeks.

So, Snowdon road loop saturday morning:

[img] [/img]

Followed by an empty Penmancho in the afternoon. Some angry looking weather over Snowdon which I thankfully managed to avoid on both rides.

First trip down to the Surrey Hills yesterday. Fantastic weather, and given that we were following a random GPX downloaded off the internet it went pretty well! Strava reckons we included Barry Knows Best, Summer Lightening, Secret Squirrel and Yoghurt Pots, plus whatever else came in between.

Looking forward to heading back!

What a lovely morning. Out at 06:30, 120 km. Beautiful. Yesterday was a little harder. Well actually it was an awful lot harder - Cat 2 road race in which I don't recall the scenery, so rode the circuit again this morning as an add-on to my normal loop!

My weekend didn't go quite to plan. I went out to do cumberland clough after work. My plan was to ride up the road from the carpark and just session the track back down to the carpark and then ride up the road again and do it 3 times at least. I got to the top first time and the wife rang to say baby was sick and I should make haste to get home.
[img] [/img]
Then on sunday morning joy of joys I was granted leave to go riding in the day.

Great weather today, so visited a couple of local playgrounds for a bit of a lark about. Local trails just that right mix of damp and dry right now, so a few PRs too.

A lovely ride on Saturday, o'er track and trail, and some road, around the River Test. A few damp bits, but overall, lovely.

Stopped in Stockers for a snack and the only picture of the day.

Whole family out to Queen Elizabeth Country Park today. My just turned 5 year old managed his first loop of the blue.

Can i just say a big thank you to all of the really lovely bikers and a few walkers too - if any are reading - who we encountered (blocked the trail in front of on at least one occasion, sorry!) for their patience and random words of encouragement.

Local 26 mile MTB ride on Saturday showing somebody my local patch, then 96 mile road ride today - rode somewhere different and expanded my map in the spirit of Mike Hall

In the bad books with the missus this afternoon though as I wasn't supposed to be gone so long 😳 but, it was sunny!

Walkers path up, Ranger path down. What a brilliant trail. No view at the top and 2 degrees. We didn't care.

Today we rode the beast at CYB which was fantastic as well. Too much fun to stop and take pics but the weather was amazing

Absolutely lovely day today in Aberdeenshire, only slightly marred by an utterly miserable walker intent on an argument........I didn't argue, and remained cheerful, much to his chagrin.

Half-day ride in the Dales {35 miles) ridden at full day pace instead of trying to bust a gut on every climb, if that makes sense. Completed the loop feeling fresh with a few PRs and in pretty much exactly the same overall time as usual... 🙄

I've neglected my doorstep trails this year, so had a blast yesterday. Great fun.

@cha****ng.. blimey! There was a little bit on the railway tracks near the top (the train only was going as far as the mid-station) but nothing else. Can't believe that's only a week ago! I'm very happy I could see all the rocks we were riding on. I bet that was a bit lively with he snow 😉

Alex - the top bit was fairly grippy and compacted actually, but after crossing the track the snow was drifted in the Ranger path, so we had to ride beside it in places (and had a couple of comedy crashes when trying to ride the soft snow).

Unfortunately the gnarly bit in the zig zags was clear of snow.

LOL

I didn't ride it all. There's one bit where I couldn't even see a line. And if I could I'm not sure I'd have ridden it. Rode the rest of it tho with a few dabs. Lots of encouragement from the walkers which was great. I'd love to go back and have another go, I'm sure I could ride some more of it clean and with a bit more smoothness, but I don't think I'd ever do the 'crux' move.

Snow in the Ranger path tho - /shudders

Absolutely lovely day today in Aberdeenshire, only slightly marred by an utterly miserable walker intent on an argument.

What did they want to ague about? I've ridden around there many times and never had anything but cheery smiles from the walkers.

I was trying to find a loop around Corryhabbie hill that took in the climb from the Glenfiddich lodge to the saddle. Only partially successful and I spent a lot of time getting lost, but it was a cracking day to be out. Didn't take any pictures, but it looked a lot like this (from last spring) 🙂

Wanderer - pick the type you fancy having a go at and just enter. They range from XC, Orienteering, Enduro, Downhill, Sportives, Short and Long in both time and distance.

Choose a local one that's cheap and aim to have fun. Do some Googling then ask on the on here any questions.

This was near to the summit of Millstone Hill from the North.

Walker: what's the point of pushing up here if you can't ride down the other side?
Me: I can ride down the other side.
Walker: well you shouldn't, it's a walkers path!
Me: I know it's going to be busy, so I'm going down a different path.
Walker: well what's the point if you have to push all the way up?
Me: I can ride virtually all of it, this last 100m is all I can't manage.
Walker: well I still don't see the point of bringing a bike into the hills!
Me: isn't it great that we're all different

Everyone else just seemed to be happy to be out in the sun.

Well played. Sounds as if you kept your cool admirably there. I'd have got all "land reform act" on him at the mere mention of a walker's path, which I'm sure wouldn't have ended well. No such thing is there?

To be fair I can't get past the first few steps on that climb (isn't it called the unclimbable climb or something on strava?) so only tend to come down that way. That would probably have pissed him off even more though.

I very nearly went up Corriehabbie yesterday, I even stopped at the junction for the turn off but decided I'd told the wife I heading for Ben Rinnes and thought I'd better stick to the plan.

I went to the Peak on Saturday with the wife who joined the Cafe Adventure Ladies ride, so I went off and did my own thing:

Sunday I had a lovely road ride round Leicestershire and Rutland which ended up being my first metric century of the year.

Also managed a cheeky Thursday ride on the Chase on the new Soul:

It was clearly a popular area to be in yesterday. I must have met half a dozen people on the trail that goes past the ruins at Suie, which is weird as I never normally meet a soul up there. I even got stuck behind a Landrover Defender full of birdwatchers for a mile or so, before they stopped to let me past 🙂

I did cast a few envious glances over to Ben Rinnes too though. Looked like a great day to be up there.

Three days supervising DofE Silver expeditions around Glen's Lochay, Dochart, Fillan and Inverlochlariag. These make up the old Royal hunting area of the Forest of Mamlorn - riddled with old Hydro board roads from the Power in the Glens project in the 1950/60's.
Glen Lochay also has fascinating minerals - the area has spotted rocks full of garnets, fools gold, mica's and various chlorite minerals (and some gold...).
Mucho miles on bike and foot, awesome sunshine, many blisters for the boys, cold but dry apart from the last three hours of the trip. 😀
