Finish at half 2 today, blue sky autumn day here in the shire, and I have a couple of hours spare before a leaving dinner this evening, so I'll get out into the mud up the River Ayr, mibbe a wee libation at the Stair Inn...

Tomorrow the good lady is out at the theatre, so I'll get stuff ready for a day at Inners on sunday, haven't been in a while and all this talk of Angry sheep and new trails has whetted my appetite...

You?.

Little or none, sadly. Marathon taper is in full swing, 10 or so mile run tomorrow, which in theory means Sunday is a rest day. In practise, I may sneak a 20 miler on the road bike in but not much more than that.

Looking forward to 3 weeks time when I can start riding my bikes in anger again.

Just perusing the forecast now. The mother in law is over again at chez jek so it's looking like a crack o dawn ride on Sunday. Probably a local XC bimble on the 29HT, woods, fields & dirt tracks with emphasis on speed rather than tech. Lovely time of the year to be outdoors.

Was for most of the day at a Cwmcarn tomorrow with a. Mate - but his wife has been admitted early for birth of their baby.

Thinking I'm still going to go on my own (sob sob) but looking at the weather forecast I may try to go Sunday instead. This all relies on retaining the pass from my wife to go biking.....

careful now. I was just told to "lose the tag "pass" and ride yer bike when you like" in another thread. Apparently i have a terrible wife too.

I like to think that it's not that our wives 'allow' us permisson to go cycling, it's just that we've found through past experience it makes for a much easier life if it is done in agreement with them. 🙂

Manchester to Blackpool BHF night ride. It's going to pee it down according to the forecasts, with about 15 - 20mph winds.

p.s. I'm only at 73% of my target so any help would be appreciated...

Free day tomorrow and, as per, the forecast is biblical.

Might do Fairfield, or might go and heckle the PMBA riders.

Leading an off road FLAB ride tomorrow for some gentle bridleway pootling and cake eating, and some of my local cycle club are planning on joining us.

Sunday will maybe involve a family pootle. Doing my first 100 miler in years a week tomorrow so having an easy week up to that to disguise the complete lack of training....

Family visit to Ilfracombe. Will escape on the road bike to tick off a few more hills from the 100 hills book. Decided not to pack mudguards as the weather report wasn't showing rain. But now it is. Bah!

Just back from Hamsterley with my lad ..had to check out the new section ( K- line) down there after its official opening last week ..some great work done by the trailblazers..it rides so well .
Not so Transmission..which is completely shagged in comparison ..still fast though ..but I believe that it's due to close soon for maintenance ..
Cracking day though ..

Mellow ride around some bits of Swaledale I'd not ridden before, courtesy of getting lost.

Hodgynd - is the best way of doing Hamsterley still a red/black combo, or have the new sections changed that? Is there an updated trail map around?

Martinhutch ..
You are really asking the wrong person when it comes to Hamsterley ..Im no expert.
We didn't do the full route today ..just sessioned certain sections a few times .
I have mostly started black then red and have never gone all the way around the full red to get to Transmission..but used the off-piste rooty climb to the fire road that climbs up to the mast ..Poulty's Last Blast is about 1.5k beyond this which then leads into K-line , Transmission etc.
Apologies if I haven't explained that too well.
Don't think there is a new map yet ..but looking on the website..the section I have just described is going to be closed to the public on 30th October for an "event" ..
Hopefully someone with more knowledge can fill in the gaps for you ..

Had a fun weekend up in the Tweed Valley.
Glentress yesterday, bits of Red and black and some off piste including Mast of Zorro, Five Year Plan, Mild Peril and Ponduro.
Today we had a ride up the Golfie and did New Wolf and the bottom of Repeat Offender before heading to Innerleithen for Angry Sheep Green Wing. We wanted to do more but we didn't have the legs or the time!

Just a little trip to one of my fave camping spots to watch the meteor shower, but no meteor shower just lots of lights on the hills must have been an endurance event on. Gave her a baccy on the way back to the van 🙂

Wanted to ride up a handful of cat4s including Beacon, Old Winchester and Butser Hills, but I've been full of a head cold the last few days and had no idea what I could do.

Ended up doing ~4600 feet of hill reps over ~33 miles on Copsewood and Dell Roads, very close to home. Best workout in a while!

Club circuit race championship yesterday. M25 circumnavigation (224 km/2000 m of climbing) on the best bike. Four hours of sleep and an 05:35 start meant slower than my fixed wheel, but clockwise is harder. Needed to eat more.

Didn't plan on it, I had interesting things like shopping and washing to do! But my kid said he wanted to do a ride with his little mate, so how could I refuse. Took em on a South Downs loop which was a bit disappointing, but didn't know what the boys were capable of. Still we were out for 4 hours in the afternoon, and what a lovely afternoon it was 🙂
Kid's ride, nice to have at 15 y.o.!

For reasons even I can't comprehend I built up my old Surly ICT frame to make a "winter fatbike", so I took that for a shakedown ride in Saturday.

Then back on the Five today for a bit of exploring up on Ben Aigan.

Tweed Valley is on the list for next year, must go.

Last weekend of the bike park so I went there on Saturday. 10cm of snow had fallen at the top so the top lift was shut but it made for some fun riding. got very muddy later on

XC bimble on sunday. Light is fading fast now

Something of a turning point this weekend

Friday I pretended it was still the back end of summer
Saturday here we go again a couple of hours splashing around in between the rain
Sunday first ride for many months with no agenda and no segments. I'll have to get used to it.

Eventful BHF Manchester to Blackpool night ride for me. Hauled my 120kg around in well under 4 hours (3:55 but that included a 10 minute break). However a friend of a friend who was riding with us came off riding to the start and has broken bones in his leg.
Not ideal for him, of course, but made me a bit more cautious.

Good event and well organised though. Couple of people I saw on fat bikes and one lad on a Nukeproof Scalp in a full face helmet deserve some, erm, respect.
