I had all day to go for a bike ride in, and I managed to set out just before a massive downpour. I got drenched and arrived home in time for the sun to come out, with beautiful blue sky for the rest of the day 😀 I like the puddle photo though, which I wouldn't have got without the rain.....

Grinding my way through the mud I came across 3 lads out on their bikes.
They were already wet and muddy so obviously jumping in a pond was the sensible thing to do.
Miles from anywhere. They were having a proper laugh.

A common theme is emerging...

Earlier this week

https://flic.kr/p/2kzgn4S

https://flic.kr/p/2kzfGSF

I gave that footpath a mis

Today

Fog, Mist, Rain, Sleet and a bit of snow.

https://flic.kr/p/2kzcbE4

https://flic.kr/p/2kzcbGy

Trails (FoD and around) as wet as I've seen them. Clearly getting loads of riding and they are not holding up that well. Still both rides significantly better than going nowhere on the Turbo!

No riding this weekend for me, my next bike will be a kayak or a JCB if the rain continues at this rate.

Nothing from me this weekend. Swelly foot claims another couple of rides. At least finally a hint from docs about what it might be (only taken about 10 years).

"your xray (taken 2 years ago but not referred to at the time) shows signs of arthritic changes"

No info about what type of arthritis or what the plan is, but hey-ho...

(TBF, I know I'm probably not their priority right now)

it's now so wet here no matter how many days of hard frost we get it's still unrideable.

Skis or a sled and dog team needed if today is anything to go by.

Miserable day here yesterday - so we walked up to eldest_oab's secret new trail and proposed jump line for an inspection.
Been for a run this morning and it's icy underfoot, lightly snowing and a wind blowing direct from Iceland... So I'm chickening out and putting a film on.

Yesterdays was just a loop bimble to the shops. Thought I'd get the roadbike ready for a ride this morning. Walked up the garden to the garage. Turned around and walked back. Too windy and cold for me.
Also been sent a link to my favourite post ride pub during yesterday evening:

Today was my first ride out in two weeks following a chest infection, legs not on form and the chest still a bit tight.

It’s my first proper ride out on the Camino and it was quick and got over everything on my normal hack out.

I’m glad I got the bike and am looking forward to some adventures when the better weather arrives.

Happy Trails

Been out local with the dog, snow never arrived and the trails haven't had enough frost yet. River has broke its banks in a couple of places.
Still good to get out

Couple of hours out on the fatbike with a stop for a coffee and black pudding roll. Snow was hard work. Not deep but very icy in paces, needing constant care, and very trodden in others so a real "boneshaker". I've been really glad of the suspension forks in these conditions.

It's funny seeing muddy and grassy trails. We've had snow on the ground for almost 7 weeks now

I was hoping for a nice snow ride today, what I got was horizontal snow, pretty trees and loads of soft muddy ground. The only things that froze were my forks, seatpost and the muddy coating on the bike .Still fun though.

Managed a 26 Km ride, about 500m of which were pushing/pulling the bike over and through snowdrifts in the lanes beyond Blackshaw Head. Proper cold it was as well, with ice clogged cassette, derailleur and wheels. Good to get out.

No frost today in the Cotswolds just a biting wind did a few stony gravel tracks so least when I came home no cleaning maybe this week it will stay frozen so can have a clean ride not done a total frozen ride in the Hills above Cheltenham and Gloucester in years.

Yesterday was grim so chickened out of outdoors. Today was a bit better. Took the fat bikes out. A bit of the Leeds - Liverpool Canal then back up the hill to home. A bitter wind not evident in the shots. Muddy low down but icy higher up.

Still plenty of snow around and about Inverness:

Fantastic on the downhill, marginal on the flat, nightmare on the climbs!

Had planned to ride Saturday but the forecast was heavy rain (that never materialized) so held back and waited for a forecast snow ride on Sunday (that never materialized) but still headed out for a 40 mile loop of filth and scum! Great ride though, just bimbled along and admired the views

Sunday mud

My photos are all getting a bit samey at the moment which is a shame as it doesn't convey the sheer amount of new singletrack I'm discovering on my CX bike at the moment. The ability to quickly and (relatively) enjoyably link up the singletrack stuff with gravel or tarmac gives you so much more scope. I visited three different areas of Fife in one ride (Pitliver, Dean Plantation, Carnock Moor, Pattiesmuir) each with its own selection of lovely twisty singletrack, which would have been a bit of a chore on an MTB due to the tarmac and flat bits in between.

I'd swear EVERYONE needs to spend their winter on a CX bike, is waaaaay more fun in the mud and if you live somewhere without access to big hills and proper gnar, you can have pretty much the same amount of fun on relatively tame muddy trails with 33mm tyres and a willingness to pedal a bit. I even passed two MTBers slogging through a thick, flat muddy section of trail that I was able to spin through quite happily whilst actually having fun trying to pick a line.

It doesn't always end well right enough

Ooof, that top photo gives me a shiver, just murky still water extending into the mist on either side...

Finally got out on my MTB since mid December. Didn't feel guilty about the 12 mile trip to Marple from home. I got lost at the start of the ride for taking a couple of wrong turns. I'm still not 100% familiar with this area. But it was nice to be out. Very cold, the windchill must have been -5/6c.

Third attempt since early December to follow this local trail and defeated again - GF needed a little lie down at this point...

Really don't see the appeal of riding in snow. I absolutely detest it!

Novelty value, it is great fun for a bit. Also a welcome break from the ankle deep mud that is normally found at this time of year.

@13thfloormonk it’s only about 2’ deep, although you would want a mouthful of it.

Continuing the snowy theme, rather good fun if only for the novelty value. We don't usually see a lot in Suffolk.
