Hurried spin round with the dog this evening. First ride of the season finishing in the dark (and didn't have lights with me), and first ride photos of the season that needed a flash.

Not too muddy from the look of the bike mate? Where was the ride?

Just round the fire roads of the local woods with the dog (don't trust him on much singletrack yet and he's still on a line). East Northants. Rain over last few days but the forest roads dry quick. Unlike the bloody clay of the rest of the trails...

Started at Linn of Dee car park , along to Glenn Quoich and up Beinn a’Bùird. Didn’t go to the summit as the visibility went very low and there are some huge cliffs up on the plateau. Went back the way we came. 5.6km of warp speed Singletrack descent. 😀

Yeah, mostly clay round here and it just holds the water for ever. Or so it seems anyway.

7am Start at Calverton Woods (just north of Nottingham). Properly dark as soon as you get into the trees, and glad I had lights. The new Joystick mk14 is excellent.

The bad: forestry is destroying the trails. The best one and a promising new one have been totally ruined. The others are next in the firing line. They have been built and evolved for years, very sad, and one less great spot within riding distance for me 🙁

I had a dreadful ride.

After weeks of riding my 8kg road bike my Enduro felt horrible. It squished and sank and had no traction in the mud uphill and everytime I turned the pedals I got pedal strike.

**** it I'm buying a hard tail.

Still, the sun came out and the FOD is a lovely place to be.

Got back to the van and put the shock pump on. Shock was running more than 100psi low which would explain a few niggles. Pumped it up and I love my Enduro again ❤

I just need to work out why it was so low. Is it leaking? Is it just normal if you haven't pumped it up for a year? Or did I accidentally hit the auto sag?

I might buy a hard tail anyway.

It's normal for a shock to lose air pressure if you haven't pumped it up for a year, just like bike tyres in that respect. All the seals are rubber "O" rings so eventually pressurised air starts percolating out.

Brilliant day out today. Noel (on the right) hasn't been out with Steve (on the left) & me for 12 years. In fact It's been 12 years since either me or Steve even saw Noel (marriage, family, all the usual shite). We all rode regularly some 25 years ago with a few others who've fallen by the wayside. Today was mint & it wasn't long before the old piss taking was re kindled.

Swaledale.

Nice one, that's what it's all about eh?

Just a couple-and-a-half hours of local slipping, sliding and crashing for me today...

Well the Byways around Avebury were very yuk with mud and some serious bike swallowing puddles mind least it was dry from above which makes a changed as its managed to rain on and off for the last two weeks.

Tailwind assisted pootle out towards Clapham. No sign of Lowey in my pic. Looking at the flyby it looks like I missed bumping into him by about five minutes...

Three cheers for this thread.
Only got out on Friday for 4 hours. 🙁
Same old stuff, but on Thursday I’m going to visit a friend near Annecy.

In my defence, I've been riding my stiff-as road bike all summer so my perception was a bit out 😁

It was minging all Sunday morning and, TBH, I just didn't fancy the trails running with water. Brightened up later though and there was a stiff breeze to dry the roads off so the Agree put in a rare appearance.

Usual Sunday ride, slog up to the top of one of the local hills, clatter back down. Managed to get out in between rain showers.

Avoided the mud on the way up, considerably less fortunate on the free ride trails on the way down 🙂
