Not seen a thread for this weekend so ...

I'm recovering from a sprained knee so went for a steady paced ride. Started at Hetton, up on to Weets Top, on to Mastiles Lane heading towards Malham Tarn before taking the bridleway over to Arncliffe Cote, down the road to Kilnsey (cafe stop) then back over Threshfield and Boss Moors to Hetton. 36km with 800m climbing. Very few other riders out: one on Weets Top then three coming up from Arncliffe and a small group about 800m ahead of me heading back from Kilnsey.

The ground is still really hard, even the permanently boggy bits across Boss Moor are almost dry with just a little surface water but you don't sink in as you normally would. Not sure how long this will last - we are bound to get a sustained deluge before too long.

Will be putting in decent shift around Rhayader tomorrow.

Been nursing a torn medial meniscus and stress fractured tibia the last few weeks, so I expect to feel fat old and slow!

Does yesterday count?  Skipton, Flasby Fell, Rylstone Fell & Barden Moor.  Odd wet patches but dry otherwise

We probably just missed each other Bob. I headed over that way with the aim of getting up to Dent. Did a midway calculation and realised there was a chance of missing the only train of the day, so looped around to settle instead.

I was probably an hour ahead of you - started at Hetton at about 0850. Wasn't sure whether to head over the Arncliffe - Middle Moor - Kettlewell bridleway to meet up with the club on their Saturday ride at Zarina's but didn't think my knee would appreciate that climb out of Arncliffe!! As it happened I met the fast group heading up the dale at Arncliffe Cote.

Probably the last ride on that cassette as well - eighth gear has been skipping for a week or so but by the end of the ride fourth and fifth were playing up as well. New cassette should arrive Monday.

Last ride for me today for a while assuming my foot operation isn't cancelled again.

Didn't have much time so what better way than a blast over Cutgate and back on the Ebike. Bit windy on the top but still quite dry apart from the usual spots

trails a little greasy in places but dry for the most part and can still get up the steeper climbs on worn summer tyres

Windy, wet and grey, but it may be the last chance I get to ride up here until April

Spent the morning with 47 Ilkeston Cycle Club clubmates putting on a ride for Simon Warren and the photog from Cycling Weekly so they can tell the world how great we are!

New bike day today. Radon Swoop 170 10.

Really nice bike, but I think mine was a Friday afternoon British Leyland special. The front brake hose is way too short and the lever pulls almost to the bar, I almost put the rear derailleur into the spokes as the low speed stop was fully wound out, the grips were loose and a few screws were loose.

edit: Scolty Hill in Aberdeenshire

Couple of quick evening rides yesterday and today. Hour or so bashes round the woods. Seen a dog sled team both nights on a training run. Followed them tonight at a sustained 25kmh on an undulating fire road- they can shift!

Looking at the Met Office site should hopefully manage to dodge the rain for another pootle in the morning.

Starting at Hope, up Roman Road, down the Beast, round the reservoir (inc. up Cable Ridge and down Cutthroat) and back again.

Lovely ride, but annoyingly my brand new chainring acquired a bash/wonk during one of the rocky descents. Still rideable thankfully. My hammer and I will try to persuade it to straighten out today.

Rode from home (Twickenham) to Leith Hill and back, via Michelham Down, Box Hill and Ranmore common.

Had a carpet of leaves on many of the trails - it looked quite pretty.

My longest off-road ride of the year, and definitely the most “up”. Legs are going to suffer today...

I’ve also got to try and fix a hole in my tyre that the sealant wouldn’t fix today - will be a messy job as there’s sealant all over the place...

First ride in the lakes since beginning of August. God I needed that. Soaking wet Grizedale but bloody brilliant.

I did a 50+ mile 6000ft loop across three counties and two countries. Through the FoD, up the other side of the Wye Valley, down to Monmouth, along the river to Ross then back through the FoD.

Was pretty wobbly after 5 hrs and nearly came a cropper on Zepplin Raid at the end. Means I can eat my entire body weight without guilt today though!

Rode Monday (hopton), Friday (FoD) and Saturday (Yat) this week. Conditions went from dry to damp-ish to barely-moist. Didn’t take any pics except Monday, so one of those will have to do

I popped into Pedalabikeaway in the FoD today to drop a shock off. Saw some riding mates, Very glad I rode yesterday. It’s all gone a bit swampy with the overnight rain.

Had a cracking night ride out last night. Our usual route but the wind was up and all the leaves blowing around made it atmospheric and fun through the dark woods. My mate got a puncture somewhere round Barlaston and couldn't be arsed to fix it so cycled back the 3 miles with a flat.

40 miles including some Sherwood Forest and a bit of off-piste at Sherwood Pines.

Quite mild and dry.

Today's ride was on the fat bike up in to Mossdale. A long pull up in to the hidden valley - there's no surface outlet for the water in the beck.

Most disappears here down Mossdale Caverns:

This was the scene of the worst caving accident in Britain, https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/what-lies-beneath-mossdale-caving-disaster-794268.html . It's a sombre place even without that foreboding weight.

Things lightened up with a great bit of moorland track, a bit cheeky since it's a footpath, about 3km in total. The first bit along the top was mostly rocky but became grassier as it went on. All rideable apart from a couple of gullies.

Then got to one of those stupid bridleways that just ends in the middle of nowhere which gave a great descent.

Did pretty much that exact ride last year. If they terminate the BWs where they do, they can't complain!

Looking at the Met Office site should hopefully manage to dodge the rain for another pootle in the morning.

Managed to dodge the rain, but couldn't manage the 100s of riders clogging up the woods on the Rutland Cycling demo day. Held at their self-styled "National e-Bike Test Centre" which is slap in the middle of one of the areas of the country that least requires e-Bikes...

Too many riders for the trails to easily handle, riders stopping randomly everywhere, riders riding stuff backwards. Rider on a demo e-Bike whizzes up behind me on one of the few climbs, I ask of he wants to pass and he says "yeah, I've got a motor" and then proceeds to climb at a slower pace than I was going in the first place. My own fault for forgetting the event was on and not going to ride somewhere else I guess.

Having said all that, once I got off-piste it was as quiet as ever and Autumn is properly showing its face here now.

Had a good 34km ride out round FOD yesterday. Trails running really well. Did a couple of the steeper more technical trails, one I hadn't done before which is always nice. The other I had crashed on two previous attempts, those were just over a year ago. I had avoided this trail ever since, as I didn't want to go back and walk the features or crash again. Having ridden a lot more technical trails in the last year I hoped my skills had developed enough to clear this one. Had a good look at the feature then dropped in trying to ride relaxed and not tense up. Cleared it much to my relief. So that's another one ticked off the list. Sorry no pictures.

Whitestone: Did you go up to the shooter's house then swing left up a landrover track for a few hundred metres?  changes to a footpath which goes through the old mining shafts up to Capplestone Gate.

@pennine - yep. Pretty much all rideable apart from the first beck crossing. There was one set of tyre tracks for the first part but nothing as I headed north.

It was dry and (nearly) sunny this morning. Obviously I had to wait til it got dark and started raining.

No riding this weekend as the fattie is still out of action.  I have all the bits to fix it, however, all the motivation has disappeared. Went for a wander with my daughter to take photos yesterday, instead of fixing it. 🤷‍♂️
