Took a long drive up to Tarland to check out the new trail centre. Climb wasn't bad apart from the last bit to the top. Climb not effort not worth the reward. Call me Chris, Chris cross, fools gold, crowd surfing are spot on. Scalextric was fun but holycow was meh and party time was crap due to the gravelly surface. Not likely to drive 3 hours to ride it again but if I'm up that way I'll give it another session. Great for the locals.

@kayak23 - loads of garlic in the FoD/Yat. So good to ride through. And we had bluebells. And mostly dry trails. And a shiver having a beer outside the pub, but you know after the last few weeks I'll take that!

https://flic.kr/p/2ov2SHi
Not sure I needed all that mudguardage today!

Went for a pootle in the Elan Valley, just gravel roads between reservoirs. Forgot how much I've missed Big Views you only get when out in the middle of nowhere.

27 miles all-in, my legs are destroyed after that. Longest ride I've done in 6 months by a factor of 3 at least!

Frankly embarrassingly nice conditions. Also frankly embarrassing legs this weekend, the climb out of Kenmore takes no prisoners ☹️

Actually spent Friday evening discovering some beautiful new singletrack on the gravel bike. Just trying to upload videos now...

Overnighter, Ilkley to Reeth and back, in preparation for a longer Scottish trip in late May. Hideous Saturday morning over Scar House to Arkleside (big hand for anyone who manages the climb from Scar Lodge - phew!)
[img] [/img]
Nice late afternoon/evening
[img] [/img]
Leaden skies but no rain over Stake Moss
[img] [/img]
First overnight trip this year, everything seemed to work, except for taking DRY chain lube...!

Nice ride around Back ‘o’ Skiddaw today. Bike facing opposite way whilst I had a snack.

Below is one of my favourite views in cycling, I had my first real mountain bike ride here in the late 80’s with a friend called Alex Polkinghorne. Living in Keswick we were often on the fells on BMX’s but that was the first time with great big 26” wheels, big tyres and gears. This was the first time around here since the recent tenth anniversary of his passing.

I even had a pretty good descent down Latrigg which was a pleasant surprise after the hoards of people I had seen on the top

Testing out the new old man mountain bike rack and Robert axle project skewer mount on my scandal today. Getting ready for the badger divide.

A hybrid approach, rack with bags strapped on. Worked really well. No swaying that I normally get from a saddle bag. I'd forgotten how hard it is to ride with this much weight! 😔

New drive train, replaced the old 10 speed Xt mech with a deore 5120 mech and 46t cassette for £25 each. Absolutely spot on gears. No idea why my full suss drive train costs more than the entire scandal build 🤣

Morning was a bit miserable

But then the sun came out on the way back home

When we came back up I felt deeply nauseous when I looked at some of the consequences on bits we'd ridden down.. yeuch.

First ride out for me this weekend since early February as I went to Center Parcs with the extended family mid Feb and came down with a plethora of bugs which paggered me for about 6 weeks, the following weeks since then I then discovered my rim tape had gone bad on rear wheel so fixed that, piston seal went in one of my calipers so fixed that then when I had some free time and attempted a ride last week my chain snapped 1 mile in at a normal link, fixed it and it snapped again, took 2 links out shortening the chain but forgot at the next climb and shifted on the big ring and snapped it again! Fingers crossed no more mechanicals so managed to get a ride in and took a photo of the old enduro when I stopped for a snack.

First day of 2 weeks in Scotland today, staying in the Tweed Valley for 3 days to start.

Started off with a nice wee warm up on Glentress blue; had sun, sleet, a biting wind... Yep I'm in Scotland! 🤣
