Inspired by the Bikes next to a sign thread, how about a challenge to take a themed picture of your bike this weekend.
This idea might take off, or it might flop, but anyway, I'll give it a go this weekend for a start.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to post a picture of your bike on a bridge this weekend.

Interpret that any way you want. Propped up against one of the towers on the Severn Bridge, or riding across a scaffold plank over a ditch in your local woods.
The only rule is that the picture must be taken this weekend, not be one from your archive.

Next weekend there will be a different theme.

Do we need a copy of Saturday or Sundays paper in the picture to prove the date or ya gonna trust us?

Ooooh, going to Cwmcarn Sat morning. There's a couple of bridges there I can get a pic on. Will only be camera phone, but I'll give it a go anyway.

What a great idea!

Sure we could make this a regular thing....
maybe the winner could pick the next challenge and subsequent winner

Grrr, too late Graham - I cycled under the Forth Rail Bridge last night, but I'm taking the SLR in for repair tomorrow. I like the idea of a photo challenge thread. Would be fun to have something similar once a week.

You can just take a pic with your mobile, Pixelmix. If this is going to be a photography-one-upmanship thing then I'm out. I reckon that this should be about taking a good pic even if it's not technically perfect or the best quality - eg anyone with a mobile should be able to take part.

Was planning on resorting to the mobile if I get a chance (I don't have a compact, so it is SLR or mobile), but my phone camera is pretty poor. Wasn't aiming for one-upmanship - my photos aren't particularly great from mobile or the old SLR regardless. 😐

Pook, that's lush.

defo just about the good pics rather than technically perfect... it is a bike forum after all, not a photo one 🙂

I wouldn't have been surprised if I got home and found this thread had fallen flat.
Instead, it's sparked a bit of interest and got a few replies. It would be great if it became a regular feature.
Just to clarify, it's not a competition and there won't be a winner.
Take the picture with whatever camera you've got and post it here.
I've got some ideas for themes for next weekend, but I'm quite happy to step back and let other people take the idea wherever they want.

I think that is the best approach. Voting becomes a pain, and I do enjoy a good old fashioned photo thread.

If it doesn't rain again tonight I'll try and get an off-road one but I can't remember if the thing I'm thinking of is actually a bridge.

Four bridges on my ride today..

The unrideable planks
[img] [/img]

The urban one
[img] [/img]

The wooden one, where I managed to get the dog still for a second
[img] [/img]

and the motorway bridge. Preferred this shot to the one of my bike though 🙂

Challenge 1 complete

Thought I'd go for something you may appreciate MTG - downstream from you lot up North they are erecting the flood barriers in Upton, so we went over for a pedal round the fields before they end up submerged.

Upton Bridge

I didn't post this earlier, because it's a bit blurred, but just think, that could be the very same water flowing under Arley footbridge, as I crossed it just before before dawn this morning, as flowed under Upton Bridge as you crossed it a few hours later. 😀

This one's more next to a bridge than on it. Proper boggy sticky mud to get to the gate "handle" so I didn't bother 😆 Almost lost a shoe putting the bike in position.

I like this weekend photo challenge idea, its made me get out and ride where I don't normally ride 🙂

Damn it, wish I'd seen this thread before I went out! Some cracking bridges on here. Lovely stuff! Any ideas for the next challenge? How about trying to get a photo of yourself and bike with some other cyclists that you've never met before? Too much hassle? How about a shot of bike plus some wildlife?

I never see any other riders out other than the roadies who don't say hello, so that one's gonna be hard.

Wildlife one would be easy, if cows and sheep count 😛 Monuments/statues is good, so long as they don't have to be famous figures or anything.

Couldn'f face going out and getting stuck in the clay round here today so...

Bridge over the railway, looking at the level crossing i will be using in a minute

Looking over the very full dyke towards my house somewhere beyond the trees. That high water level is the reason i was on the road today 🙂

I was going to wait until late tonight to set next weeks theme.
How do people want to play this ?
A new thread every week, or let this one run ?
I've already got something planned for next weekend's challenge, but I'm going to run out of ideas one day, so how do we choose who sets the theme ?
I originally planned to set the theme on Friday nights, but some people like to plan their rides further ahead, so would Sunday night be better ?
I started the thread, but I'm happy to let it evolve and take whatever direction it does.

Blimey it's been too long since i was last in the Wyre if they've built a bridge now (can you still ride through?)

Houns, it was too deep to ride today and I'm not sure if it would still be possible if the water was lower.
I know they dug a narrow deep channel with steep sides to contain the brook while the bridge was being built, but I don't know if it was made wider and shallower again afterwards. It's all under too much water to see at the moment.

I reckon a seperate thread for each weekend would be easier to manage.

Separate thread each week definitely

I have a few ideas for future challenges - would you like them posting here?
