So I have a pass for a long weekend of riding somewhere is Europe in Sept. Basically I am looking for a weekend of guided Alpine style riding with a relaxed atmosphere and good food. Oh and I will travelling alone and no trouble sharing a room with a stranger if needs be.
So where and who do you recommend?
What are you looking for in your alpine riding? In September most of the French lifts are closed but there will still be plenty of other options available to you. Another factor is which airport you can easily get to. For example, Austrian resorts might in some cases be tricky for long weekends if you’re flying, whereas Geneva usually has multiple flight options which could mean Verbier would work for you if you want chairlift access. If you’re happy with pedal power then there’ll be a few more ideas on the table. Sierra Nevada, whilst not the Alps, is also good at that time of year, as is Finale Liguria.
I believe Alpine Elements used to run into Sept in Morzine, bit of a gamble though, if the resort keeps the lifts open longer (I believe they have in recent years due to no snow arriving) then it's lifts, if not it's a Van and Trailer which would kill most of the appeal of Alpine riding for me.
Not sure about lift opening but I think they are open at weekends in Luchon. You can fly into Toulouse then hire care to Luchon. Enough riding under the lift for a weekend or you can get some guiding to go further afield. It's nice town with plenty of accommodation options in low season, which you will be.
Or maybe one of the Spanish guiding companies. Not alpine but should be good weather there. Pretty hilly
