Half term starting with massive in-laws get together in Pickering for 4 days.
Happily next to Dalby Forest. 😎
They're eating and drinking lots.
We're planning on riding lots. Car loaded, the kids and mrs_oab have a fortnight off.

I've just spent an hour pushing my boy round the garden on my bike and rode round with him on my lap and he loves it, would not stop giggling. He's been walking around shouting "bike" since. Not a "proper" ride but made me well happy - have to get a seat for him asap. He must catch the bug 🙂

Built a bike. Not ridden a bike. After big crash(es) last week and a cold all this week, I’m not going far, but I am getting out tomorrow. Dried up here, it’s hero dirt and that’s not to be missed. Even if you are coughing like a 20-a-day man 🙁

Half term? It's Easter Sunday three weeks tomorrow (don't forget to move the clocks forward)! 😮

So far this weekend, all I've done on a bike is a grand finale TT to our break at Longleat CP, down the hill to Horningsham and then through the estate to climb that steep cat4 hill in the estate grounds... On my GT Zaskar hire bike while still suffering from from some form of lurgy I had all week (which I thought had gone the weekend previous)! 😈

Numerous cat4 hills and at least one cat3 hill within 12 miles of Center Parcs, plus ~22 miles away from the Mendips cat3 hills, it's a great location if you like hilly road rides on mostly very quiet roads.

Awful night's sleep last night, woke at ~0300, back to bed at ~0730 and been like a zombie all afternoon after rising a second time at ~0930... Such a waste of what has been a lovely day! Still can't decide whether to do a short gentle ride before sunset, simply to wear the full-on summer gear and remind myself on how much more appropriate my road bike is for road riding. 😉

Stunning spring day at Comrie, attempted to ride the newish black trail up top. I say attempted as even by my low standards I rode like a complete turnip, picked every bad line going, smacked pedals off every available trail feature, fell off on bits I've done a dozen times mentally and physically I felt empty..just wasn't happening. Mmft.

I'm going for a lie down.

No photos unfortunately but got in 69 miles off road around Dorset. It was the strangest ride I've had in a long time.

It was nice and warm out today but: Saw the same road cyclist at three different points and had exactly the same conversation three times; got hit by a low flying pheasant on the Jubilee Trail; had the weirdest conversation with an old biddy outside the Londis in Puddletown; found and returned a dog from the main road in Affpuddle (the owner didn't give a shit it was missing and it just ran off again anyway); found a severed deers hind leg in the middle of the trail in Throop; saw a car with three topless girls in Wareham (apparently it was a dare, I just had to stop and ask them at the traffic lights!); lastly watched a guy who was on his own doing forward rolls all the way down from the top of Ballard Down to Old Harry Rocks.

The whole thing was surreal.

Joined a few short bits of trail I’d never ridden before with bits I had. Weather was changeable to say the least. Warm in the sun then really quite cold as soon as it went in.

A daunder around Dalby in the sun. Lovely.

Is it me, or is Dalby Red constantly hard work? Is it also me or is most of it a touch under graded - or maybe I'm not used to so smooth...

Vid from yesterdays ride. Trails were running sweet and pretty much all dry. Nice mix of speed and technical scaryness at Yair.

Took the eldest MiniOddie up to the Peaks for his first proper Peaks ride.

Started out chilly and misty but was glorious sunshine and ry trails for most of the day.

We did 35km on the Eastern Moors, Curbar, Froggatt, Lady Cannings and Blacka and I think we're both feeling it a bit today...

After watching the EWS live overnight we did a figure of 8 from Derwent across to Hope for a Mothers Day ride. With one daughter having to work and the other in Tasmania for the EWS it was just the two of us. Plenty out on the trails which were dry for a change.

Third bivvy of the month..

I've been through the South Loch Ness area a couple of times on longer trips and a few other times on short, day trips but this was the first time I'd set out to bivvy. It's very overlooked, with a fantastic range of scenery and it is blessed with a network of small,, quiet roads. I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Piemonster heading for the Dores Inn and food...

Over to the Lakes for a bivy trip. Started at Blawith, over to Torver then Stephenson Ground and down to the Newfield. Up by Wallowbarrow Crag then over via the BW to the foot of Hardknott Pass.

Harter Fell BW

Tea in The Boot Inn then up the old corpse road to bivvy at Burnmoor Tarn

Burnmoor lodge bivy

Descent down Miterdale

Following an off and some soreness we headed back via Ulpha Fell and Kiln Bank

Kiln Bank

A total of just 73km but with over 2000 metres of climbing!

Not been out for far too long - haven't been able to muster the motivation, even when I wanted to get out.
This weekend a mate came up to visit, meaning I got off my backside!

Saturday saw us heading out from the door to take in South Head, Brown Knoll, Edale Cross, Kinderlow End, Broad Clough, Middle Moor, Lantern Pike and back home via Moorland Road ( I hate that climb) and Chinley Churn.
We had planned to do the Kinder Enduro route from the VP guide - but a neighbour joined us and we took advantage of his local knowledge to modify the route.  He was also kind enough to wait for us on all the climbs and not moan at all, even when he was obviously getting cold waiting!!

Then today we went out for a short local loop with the plan of also looking for a cheeky trail or two above Fernilee Reservoir.
Bit longer than planned but located a nice trail and the right area for lots of others.  Legs were feeling it by now, so we went back via The Bridge Bakehouse for coffee and cake.

Cracking weekend in glorous weather, just what the Dr ordered.

From my now duplicate thread! Oops.

I didn’t take any pictures! A nice local loop of teh gnarmacz before a stonker of a roast beef lunch!

A little chillier this morning compared to yesterday, but trails were dusty and full of birdsong, roads were quiet.

A rolled sirloin, Yorkshire pudding, roast spuds, carrots, leeks and gravy, and lashings of Tewkesbury mustard, in case you were wondering. Washed down with a nice bottle of claret. Happy days.

Had a couple of hours free this morning, so I rode from home to meet the Mrs at her parents for lunch. Just under 16 miles, but with an 8 week old baby that's the most I've managed for a while. Found a new bit of cheeky to avoid some road and generally had a pleasant potter around some local woods.

Not tried posting from Instagram before, here goes...

@matt_outandabout Dalby is my local, and it's a funny one. Feels like it's 90% uphill and most of the red feels like a blue, apart from a few bits where you come round a corner and suddenly it's quite hard for a bit (comparatively). Catches a few folk out. If you get chance get out on the Moors round Rosedale, not far away and some great riding there.

Another ride/dog walk this morning, this time up to the Hochreit trail (starts outside Mr Red Bull’s mum’s house).
Got to the trailhead to find it still about 3’ deep in snow, but it had compacted enough to be just about rideable on the ebike with the tyre at about 15psi.

For the first time in an age I went to an actual trail centre... Laggan.

Did the red (outer loop twice as I was riding bag o mince for at least the first half of it). It was nice out, even if there was still a touch of ice about by midday... never been before, I prefer ‘natural’, especially as it’s a 30 mile drive past the Cairngorms... 🤷‍♂️

Nae photies as I wiz ridin by mesel.

always wondered about the path that turns of the top of walna scar so went up it today and then back down past goats water. i do like rocky technical stuff but it was a bit much in places and spent a bit to much time pushing the bike.

Was in the Lakes saturday, drove up planning on doing Fairfield, but the clag was down so decided to stay low. Parked up at Skelwith and followed my nose around Elterwater and Grizedale. trails were drying up nicely. Cracking day out.

Rich, saw you on the road between Stavely and Ambleside on the way home. Tooted but you looked in a world of your own.

Great pics and vids.

After 5 months of muddy wet riding in Kent it feels like Spring has sprung and brought the welcome relief of dry trails along with it-long may it continue .

Saturday we did 9 climbs at Mallards Pike. Sunday it was Wyre Forest awesomeness. Shattered tonight after a 102 mile week though so I've had a forced night off.

Another dog walk / explore today.

Found some great singletrack but had about an hour pushing up through deep snow.

Arnie had been out setting traps for The Predator again.
