17/11/2017.
Brrr, tis a bit chilly! Where's those base layers eh? dig em out.
Beanie under helmet if you're soft like me (at least for the first 30 minutes) and on with the warmer gloves.

Just a local run for me on Sunday evening as we have a busy weekend planned. Looks to be dry for most, with temps mostly below 5 on Sunday. Could be worse.
Where you off?

Usual social road ride for between 3 and 6 seems to have become a gentle off road loop for three of us. Me on the fatty, mate 2 on his Cx bike, and mate 3 on his somewhat old school Ti mtb. We will be comparing experiences in the pub on the way back to the village.

22 miles around the Dales with Santaslittlehelper off here. Nearly killed me, that bridleway form Dent to the Kingsdale road was particularly hard. 🙁

Went exploring on the FOD, round Mallard's Pike area. Found some lovely trails in great condition I've never found before. Weather was good too, just a normal top over a baselayer and shorts, at the end of November 😀

Tomorrow will most likely be a visit to Cwmcarn. Off this week too so much riding will be done.

Eldest_oab battering round on coached session, I decided to clear the bucket of green from bottom of my lungs with a tootle around Comrie Croft. It's like august bank holiday with so many folk here. 😯

Nearly killed me, that bridleway form Dent to the Kingsdale road was particularly hard.

I found that pretty appalling in midsummer. Downhill. That first section out of Dent would be silly steep to climb up. The main BW at the top must have been an utter shitefest.

Getting over the lurgy from Friday and Saturday, so just a local short loop for me to wheeze around and a bit of wheelbuilding.

It was a good job I had a light bike to push up, as there was very little riding 🙄

The main BW at the top must have been an utter shitefest.

It was pretty soul destroying TBH, it must be one of the worst kept BW I know of 🙁

Last time reminded me why I hadn't ridden it for five years. That was after squelching up over the moor south from Ribblehead too. There are tougher BWs in the Dales though! 😀

40 miles on my singlespeed through Clumber and over to Sherwood Pines riding mostly off-piste trails. Pretty hard frost first thing with some frozen puddles, but the trails were dry and riding well.

Hopefully they'll keep these two trees when they fell the Cafall side of the valley, had to grab a (crap, poor light) picture of them just in case.

Everyone was really happy and chatty there today, despite it being only 5 degrees and a bit of slop on the ground for added spice. Place was nearly full with loads of families out too.

Eh? What time were you there? It pissed down the whole time I was there yesterday.

From 9.30 to about 2ish. I did loop out to the other parts of the forest for most of the day so missed the rain that seemed to be permanently camped over the main trails! Was dry and cool everywhere else 8)

Nearly killed me, that bridleway form Dent to the Kingsdale road was particularly hard

Last rode this in 2002 and never had the urge to try it again. Absolutely appalling back then due to off road motor traffic. They had pulled stones off the walls to fill the worse parts but these were often hidden in the deep water filled trenches (rut doesn't cut it!). Oddly, it doesn't look too bad in the video.

That particular BW was not on the video, it would have made particularly bad viewing, 🙄

I can confirm it hasn't improved from your description. 🙂 It's depressing when you've climbed all the way up Kingsdale and end up walking half the way down as well.

PS Lowey. Halloween was weeks ago. 🙂

No pics (as we didnt take any!)

But did a big day out tour of the tweed valley. Rode Peebles to Inners, up Innerleithen hill for a few tracks. Then cafe stop, up golfy side for a couple trails, then over the Lethen climb from the granites to the top of glentress. And a couple trails down to Peebles to finish. 5-6 hours out. 55km.

Dent to Kingsdale? That's Occupation Road, just a nightmare, bad enough when it's (relatively) dry but there's no way I'd head that way at this time of year. The section from Barbondale to the BW descent to Dent is fine, the section to the next BW junction is OK if you get the right line and it's not super wet. The last bit to get to the Kingsdale Road is just awful.

@vortexracing - just after the end of your video there's a farm then Yordas Cave. There's a BW up past this, a bit of pushing, to pick up an old track that runs parallel to the road through Kingsdale and drops down above Masongill. You can then work back to the BW leading to Ingleton or the one leading back over Twistleton Scars towards Ribblehead. Never been over the first BW over Great Wold in that direction.

Must admit, I was pretty underwhelmed by that bit too, last time I did it. Plus the farmer had blocked the gateway above Yordas with an utterly massive boulder, which was a complete PITA to even get a bike past! Complained about it to ROW people, to no avail.

The only redeeming feature of the entire 'Tour of Whernside' route is probably about a minute or two's worth of descending off Whernside. 🙂

Do you head back to Ribblehead via the road or the BW over Twistleton Scar End? It's a short steep and in places techy climb but then you are winding in and out of limestone pavement, gently downhill rather than steep.

The route as described on the YDNP website is clockwise - ie Ribblehead to Twistleton End (mainly bog), then up to above Yordas - doubletrack, kingsdale, then 'down' occupation road. The icing on the cake being the long slog up Great Wold.

I can see the argument that it would be better A/C, but then you get a long road descent, two horrible pushes etc.

Ribblehead to Twistleton End (mainly bog)

If you are finding mainly boggy ground on that section then you are on the wrong line! There's a few very short sections of bog but it's mostly free-draining ground.

Didn't feel very free draining this summer! Wasn't the worst part of the ride by any means, but felt like a bit of a slog anyway.

It's not really up there with a cheeky lap of the Fairfield Horseshoe on a cold, crisp, November day. 🙂

We were going to do that bit, but my legs had given up and we ran out of daylight
