So I have a week off. Fancy a new trail centre day trip somewhere driving from Surrey. Will be on my own. Thought about PORC or UK Bike Park but perhaps better in a group for those. Done Wales a lot, Swinley, Aston Hill, Bedgebury, Sherwood Pines, Eastridge...

Don't mind a longish drive as can set off early. I'm thinking Cannock, but anywhere as good that's closer??

I'd be thinking of a bit of exploration round Dartmoor personally, but that's not exactly a trail centre!

FOD is always good fun should be enough people there if you are riding on your own?

Have you been out to Brechfa, can you consider staying overnight to take the edge off the drive ? Peak District for something more natural. Nirvana Cycles shop ride Wednesday afternoon (I'll likely be on that and am about all week if you want to drop me an email)

PORC - I found to be poorly sign-posted and really only for full-on DH folk.
Cannock was OK. I think it was follow-the-dog or something like that the name of the trail I did. It was also a bit short. Think they have a new trail now.
Heard good things about the Quantocks.
Also lots of riding on Purbeck - but you might need a guide or somebody who knows the trails.
FOD is also excellent.

Isle of Wight is a good day out from Surrey - bikes go free on the "Fastcat" from Portsmouth harbour, plenty of riding to be had and every pub or caff I've tried has been very bike friendly.

If you've a week off, why just a day trip - what about the Lakes with a B&B in-between?

Cannock is worth the travel, especially as its so dry now.

My week off is to move house (Friday is the day) so a day is all I can spare! FOD seems to be tempting me most right now. I haven't got time to map read and get lost so needs to be somewhere ready made i.e. trail centre.

Cheers for all suggestions.

Cannock then, easy to find, easy to ride around 🙂

why the hell would you leave the Surrey Hills - riding is far superior than cannock etc!!

I ride the Surrey Hills 2-3 times a week and there isn't much of it I don't know. Got the time to go a bit further away 😀

Surrey to Cwmcarn is easy in a day, and depending on your riding you could have a bash at the downhill course or the Twyrch Trail. In this weather I'd hit S Wales every time. It's not going to happen often.

If youve "done" Wales, Id head to the Quantocks. Preferably when its tipping it down.

I'd go for S. Wales or Peak if you're bored of Afan etc. Black Mountains has some great riding but better with a guide. Or there's always the South Downs

+1 for Cwmcarn. Closer than Afan and limited choice is a good combo. Done the one day thing before. Was knackered when we got home but it was worth it.

I liked Cannock but went to fod last weekend and thought it was awsome. I'd go to fod, we left from Kent and it takes no time to get there. Fully recommend it. Stick with the blue run and enjoy Verders, then take on some of the dh routes. You can combine them too.
