They have metal. What do you think will happen walking through the metal detector?

Got pulled up at Biarritz airport with road shoes /cleats in hand luggage. In the end, after talking to some official people, they let them through so it could go either way. Time plastic cleats btw, would be hard to do any damage with them.

One beggars the (obvious IMO) question, Why would you?
(unless it's the only shoes you are travelling with that is)

Or you are travelling with hand luggage only.

Well obviously I'd take them off and put them through the x-ray machine 🙄

Off to Mallorca for a cheeky 4 days. I'll be hiring a road bike there and only taking hand luggage. I think I'll take them off the shoes and pack them seperately and then buy some more out there if security get arsey and confiscate them.

I'm sure they are considered a dangerous weapon. You could smack the cabin crew round the head with them. Though not as dangerous as taking flat pedals in your hand luggage, especially Vaults.

I've seen people wandering through airports in Ski boots before now so I don't think you'll have problems with cycling shoes. As for being dangerous weapons - then what about stiletto heeled shoes?

Previously before kids, when I owned semi-interesting cars, I've brought back car parts in hand luggage from other countries where they've been significantly cheaper than in the UK, with absolutely no bother. Once I brought back a brake upgrade kit from the States - 330mm diameter disks, huge 4-pot callipers associated braided hoses and mounting kits. I split it over the hand luggage of the three colleagues who were traveling with me and we all had no bother, with security or customs and excise.

Take them off, put them through the X-Ray with your hand luggage and walk barefoot through the arch.

I would not class them as sensible shoes to be wearing for a flight incase of an emergency evacuation. You will have to take them off before going down an evacuation slide, as women do not eating heals, but you would be putting you and others at risk trying to move though an aircraft cabin in an emergency.

Haha brilliant, can't quite figure out if you're taking yourself seriously or not though. Do you wear a wetsuit, water wings and surfing shoes on planes just in case?

Are we talking road shoes, which would be rather slippery on tile floors, or MTB shoes, which wouldn't be an issue in the slightest I'd not think!

Worn them a number of times- just put them in the tray through the machine.

If I'm touring, they are the only shoes I take.

I'm being serious. Some people are (insert 4 letter word of your choice) and will have no problem with pushing and trampling over someone in their way in an emergency. OP said hiring a road bike so I assumed road shoes. MTB shoes just remove the cleats and put them in your hand luggage.
