Seems especially relevant to me at least in biking industry to use customers as test guinea pigs for their new released kit (see the Fox X2 Shock topic).

Then cover themselves to top it off with multiple terms and conditions.

Anyway reason for title post was just spotted PX site to see 15% OFF EVERYTHING banner.
Speculating on a Whippet rigid which were in my size and colour wanted input code into section in basket to find out.

THAT COMPUTER SAYS NO.

So off I go to another random page on PX to see in small banner 15% discount not for flash sale, discounted items etc etc blah blah blah.

A wee rant sure though an observation.
Plus they wanted an extra £29.99 for delivery which is pretty much unheard of these recent years for bikes over £500.

Cheers PX 🤔 for completely turning my perception of your Co. in the opposite direction.

Having owned a SS inbred complete, a geared custom and a Dirty Harry.

Time to get back to basics and respect the brand/ethos that Brant began with.

Hopefully a PX CS member will see this :/

Welcome to 2015(ish)

PX/OO have been a variable outfit for some time now... Sometimes there's a bargain to be had, just don't expect too much...

Sposeso as I found out with my Dirty Harry when going over bumps & off pavements that the headset would come loose and render riding useless.

@notjustacyclingaddict just wait a few weeks for the whippet to be in the sale, it always does. Its often at £899. Plus I think if you sign up to the newsletter you can get 10% off but not sure if that can be used against a bike?? It will be in the t&cs! 😜

Paying delivery for a bike is pretty common...they are big and heavy (as complete units in the biking world) and need insurance which costs...

Never had a problem with planet X. Some people seem to want to dislike them though. They make decent bikes imo, just wait for the price that suits you and hit buy.

Was your perception of them as a company with a clear and simple pricing structure?

To be perfectly honest, you could have gone to any random page on the internet - or actual shop - to find that same rider.

The huge banner on the front page says *excludes promotions.

The £900 currently one is showing significantly more than 15% reduction, I suppose you'd could email PX and ask them to pay full price less 15%? (the sx rigid at 1199 is discountable with the code if you like 😉)

Paying delivery for a bike is pretty common…they are big and heavy (as complete units in the biking world) and need insurance which costs…

Absolutely this.

@damascus - very good, I see what you did there.

To Matt, yes to not bother looking list seeing as I cannot unsubscribe from their hounding multiple times a day emails that find their way to my inbox each time.

This is just the nail in the coffin.

To the rest, well you obviously cannot read op and especially not between the lines.

I've had a lot of bikes from planet x and on one.

Even though I have a fancy full suss bike the one that gets used the most is my on one scandal rigid bike. It just rides brilliantly even with its deore 10 speed gears. Set up as a cheap winter bike but it's brilliant. No reason to suspect the whippet won't be just as good.

I'm half tempted to buy a whippet and put suspension on my scandal.

Not sure how headset coming loose is PX's fault, is the head tube getting shorter? In the end it's movement of stem on steerer, are they PX bits?

I’m sure Planet X have problems. But I’ve not experienced them

We bought my grown up son a Planet X scandal during the covid bike drought. SRAM gx and an ok fork for either £1000 or £1100 I can’t remember. We added the a dropper and changed the tyres.

We’ve had zero problems with the bike or the purchase. Nothing else came close to  the  spec for that price

I’m not denying the problems they’ve created. I’m not sure if I’d  buy a bike for myself from them. But I think they play a role in keeping cycling affordable

I bought my first PX bike at the beginning of the year, Whippet SX for £800 and it seemed to go smoothly enough. Just sold it as although it was decent to ride the SX kit was absolute garbage so I'd strongly suggest you go for a better build. The supplied tyres and tubes were so heavy that they spoiled the ride so budget to change them. The box it came in was very flimsy too and looking back may have been the reason the rear mech was bent, which I didn't realise until too late.

The box my 627 frame came in is like a cast iron chest in comparison.

No real dislike of PX but don't think I'll get another as they are just a bit meh. When spending decent amounts of money I like to enjoy owning the item but the Whippet just felt like a tool for a job and a bit white goods.

Whippet SX for £800

What do you expect for a £800 carbon bike?

Most of us that buy them strip the bits we don't want and put better stuff on that we already have.

I've had some terrible experiences with PX/OO in the past, including outright theft. But I still caved in and got a Titus Loco Moto in the sale. And it seems good! I don't fancy my chances ever making a warranty claim, but that aside I'm not regretting it... yet.

They are on balance a shit company, that goes through tidal phases of high and low shitness but they do sell some good stuff cheaply.

I expect it to be shipped in a box that's up to the task, especially after paying a decent amount for postage, and for the groupset, that is currently fitted to plenty of 2k+ bikes to work at least as well as 30 year old Shimano 200GS. It didn't and confirmed my previous thoughts about Sram kit compared to Shimano. Had I kept it the plan was to go 2x10 Shimano as I think the 1x12 didn't suit what the bike is best at and I'm not sure you could fit a much bigger single ring.

I agree that you shouldn't be surprised at mince tyres/tubes at the price point but was just making those considering buying one aware. The forks are nice, the frame decent enough and the own brand finishing kit perfectly okay.

The biggest potential bargains I see in their bank hol sale are the ebikes, the track frameset and the road frameset.

Cheers PX 🤔 for completely turning my perception of your Co

Not being sarcastic, but are you new here?

They've been getting flack for years for sloppy QC, questionable customer services and confusing/cynical price fluctuations.

No points to justify chaka.

So for those who don't like ebikes, road or track, there's sweet fa of interesting items... 🤔

Usual weekly on one/px bashing thread 🤷‍♂️

I mean the amount of bikes/kit they must shift(also staffing issues) over the years your bound to get some **** ups !!

However I must be very very lucky as I’ve bought from them for years(first inbred) and lots of components and many bikes over the years and never had a single issue 🤷‍♂️

Its not really Planet x fault if sram sx is poor is it. Part of the attraction of the Scandal is gx

At no point did I say it was, I was simply advising potential buyers to spend a bit more on better than SX because it's terrible and has no place on anything remotely decent.

All of the above is true.
Some days there’s 2 threads on the front page regarding PX so whatever they are doing, it’s working.

No such thing as bad publicity eh? In my experience PX are kind of the Ryanair of online bike retailing. Good at grabbing headlines, confusing and (sometimes) borderline fraudulent offers and discounts. Questionable attitude to customers, customer service and product availability. And then there's the quality control on their nicely painted, Chinese catalogue frames..

I've bought quite a few things from them. Some were okay, some weren't. Some arrived as advertised, some never arrived at all (though in fairness I did get refunded. Eventually). Sometimes they were on the ball. Sometimes they couldn't even find the ball.

Some years ago when Brant worked there, he was like a one man customer service outfit (this wasn't his job) on here, sorting out what seemed to be a constant litany of unresolved issues and problems. Brant no longer works there. Go figure.

You pays your money and you takes your chance I guess. I'd use them still for basic pieces of kit like stems and innertubes. Not sure I'd be wanting to put my hard earned down with them on any more weighty purchases..

Bought a Titus Fireline from them early this year. It’s a fantastic bit of kit.
