Been using wd40 sprayed on to a cloth to polish / clean up my carbon frame for a while. Riding buddy tells me this is a bad idea, but other than lots of threads saying it is a bad idea I can't find one that says why it is a bad idea. Finish on the frame hasn't changed and it hasn't burst into flames or anything
This isn't to lubricate, it is to clean/polish. Always leaves a nice finish IMO.
So, why is it bad? Attacks the finish?
Clean it with whatever you like, it's just soot and plastic, they're dishwasher safe too....
You're not cleaning the carbon with the WD40 you're cleaning the paint or lacquer on top of it. I can't imagine they make special non-WD40 resistant paint/lacquer for carbon frames!
Great eco-idea...
What's wrong with soap and water, or just water?
soap and water and furniture polish is cheaper
although WD40 can be used as a handy non-stick layer for mud
