Anybody tried the various sprays available to waterproof shoes? Did it work? Which stuff was best? I am not so daft as to expect proper waterproofness but if it just stopped flats shoes getting totally waterlogged and taking days to dry that would be a definite improvement.

I once saw someone roll into the carpark at Brechfa after a ride with the remains of some plastic shopping bags on his feet. I admired his 'I don't care what I look like' attitude.

Flat shoes tend to have a big gap either side of the tongue and a hole in the top where your foot goes so I think you'd be fighting a loosing battle even if you can get the rest of the shoe material waterproof.

I have treated my work shoes but the water still gets in through the foot hole. You could try an overshoe?

Prob best to focus you efforts on some waterproof socks and some means of drying your shoes post ride.

I use Nikwax leather cleaner and conditioner on my Five Tens. It helps is all I can say. Comes in a small bottle and I paint it on. Also use it on my motorcycle boots and gloves.
Waterproof socks are Ok,but the water still runs down your legs with shorts on and your shoes fill up. When it's grim I use Endura Singletrack 2 trousers and sealskins with Freerider Elements

Not quite an answer to the question you're asking but this sort of thing will dry most shoes overnight

Those dryers might be the way to go. The original question was prompted by a week in Scotland in snow and rain at minus temperatures. I thought I had taken every option possible in clothing but it wasn't enough! The place we stayed didn't have a proper drying room so it meant putting on damp shoes every morning. Even though I took loads of gloves, my hands were still cold most days. It certainly taught me cold and wet in the Peaks is nothing compared to cold Nd wet in the Highlands.
