Waterproof trousers that don't get your feet wet?

Are there any trousers out there that aren't of the over trousers type material that are shaped so that water doesn't run off and down your ankle? You know the type, the crinkly stuff that's really annoying.

Also a reinforced bum pad would be nice as I live in Scotland where the mud has eaten my Fox Rangers far too easily.

Fitted trousers will all make your feet wet!

What you want is a baggy ankle so the water drips off over your shoes rather than into them but these baggy trousers will snag on the chain ring causing you to tuck them into your socks and making things worse!😁

Would GripGrab ankle gaiters help? Assuming you have shoes with a sufficient ankle for them to overlap.

Troy lee resist + sealskinz socks have been the best combo I've used so far

Endura MT500 Spray , reinforced bum , not fully waterproof but leg length is impressive and best of all they are £65 from Leisure Lakes at the moment which is half RRP , I bought the Olive Green colour so impressed I've just bought a black pair 👍

Yeah, I think you maybe need to look at footwear/ankle sealing rather than just overtrousers. You're asking a lot of waterproof legwear to defy gravity and the ability of driven water to get everywhere - remember it's coming up from below as well as running off your legs. It's easier with walking because you can build in overlap at the ankle and it's all a lot more sedate.

* holds up hand * I have absolutely no idea what 'the crinkly stuff' is.

Just on this point, does you saddle have any raised stitching?

That's usually what kills waterproof trews IME.

re. the wet feet point, I usually just wear wool socks so they don't get cold.

Mid length boots, so the fitted trousers go over the top

Unless the trousers also cover a show cover, you can't avoid this as water will always run down to the feet.

Best method would have a solution to keep feet dry i.e. waterproof socks. I'm not a fan of goretex as it just makes your feet sweat massively so they get very soggy anyway!

I run Royal Storm trews over sealskinz, and I have a pair of shoes that are airy and I removed the seal around the cleat (SPD types) to allow them to be free draining. That does me for most of my winter riding just fine, the shoes get rinsing wet but don't hold water, and dry quickly. Feet stay dry inside the sealskinz If its really cold I will swap to the mid height winter boots which does just about keep the water out of the shoe, but not 100% of the time.

As above, boots with trousers going over the top. My full waterproof Endura MT500 trousers have zipped cuffs to allow them to for over boots. The boots obviously have to be waterproof as well.

I wear gaiters under trousers so the water goes trousers, gaiter and outside of shoe instead of funneled into shoe.

The trousers I mostly wear are longer and sit over to top of my shoes, so no need for gaiters.

The waterproof trousers I wear are tapered and send all the water into my waterproof boots where it sloshes about. Hence gaiters

I've got some TLD Resist which are really tapered at the ankle. Combined with Lake boots and GripGrab gaitors, my feet stay dry for a while.

The trousers just about go over the boots. I have to roll. Y socks down so they're not above the top of the boot and then stretch the gaitors over the boots.

I can't imagine a more effective combo but my feet still end up wet eventually.

I don't know it's the trousers eventually letting water through or something else but you'll never stay totally dry.

The thing I've found with the above combo is that although water gets in eventually, my feet are still warm so I dont really care.

In the Peak, it was the grit between butt and saddle that did mine. Endura ones wore through exactly where my sit-bones are, no stitching required. A Mudhugger or similar would probably sort that out.

Madison DTE trousers come in longer leg lengths which helps stop the water draining into your shoes. I’m not sure why folks think they need the same inside leg length as a pair of jeans when buying waterproof riding trousers. If you sit on a chair in a pair of jeans and see how far the hem rides up you’ll see they need to be longer to cope with the pedalling motion. Wish the 5:10 gtx boot top was made of something other than neoprene as it doesn’t stop the water draining into the shoe. Having the longer trousers helps though.

+1 for the mud hugger
