Any recommendations or what have you got. Only going to be used for bikepacking duties so probably just wearing over a par of liners but all day useage rather than a few hours. My last pair just shredded out I was just using some old Dickies workwear ones I’d found in a shed!
A lot of people use the military surplus blue RAF ones that are breathable. They call them MVP I think. Cheap as chips on ebay or from a local military surplus place.
I use these, super light, super comfy and super cheap. 2 Zipped pockets pull corded waist and zipped lower legs for on off over shoes :
Not worn waterproof trousers ever before but went for a pair of Endura MT500 for a trip to BPW in January as it was bitterly cold and wet. Wonder why I didn’t buy some before as I’ve worn them loads since and a complete convert. They are not cheap but very well made and probably last at least 2-3 years if the shorts are nothing to go by.
Got some mtp (multi-terrain pattern) surplus ones for £15 off eBay - very high quality, full length zips and very breathable.....and nobody can see my legs any more!!
You may have to shop around to find the right size though
Thanks for the replies. Looked at the military ones but struggled with sizes.
gravesendgrunt hows the sizing on the sondico pants?
I got some snow trousers in the Superdry sales, stupidly priced low and I thought whats the worse that could happen..used them 3 times so far commuting and nice and warm and waterproof too! Struggled with sizes from other brands so this was a punt but happy with them.
Craghoppers Aquadry.
Very waterproof. Zip up pockets, so everything stays dry and secure. Have worn them in sleety 'Puffers.
Just make sure you get a size you can do squats in, and they'll be ok on the bike.
And you're not paying that special cycling garment tax.
Also I have crashed in them and done a bit of damage to my knees, but the trousers turned out to be crashproof. 🙂
Marin - I'm 5'7" nigh on 31" Crotch to floor and use the mediums. They are a baggy fit in legs-can fit knee pads under them fine.
Bizarre that’s exactly my sizing and for the military ones that works out at 75/80 leg/ waist, so guess you could flex round that. Will also fit knee pads. Ideally I would get them a tiny bit longer in the leg but I’ve never found any 80/80’s...
Endura MT500 here. pricey but excellent
Also so Boardman things which are cheaper but turn out not be as waterproof as hoped
Thanks for the replies. Going for the MPV as look pretty sturdy and I may be living in them for a week all good recommendations though. Happy riding.
I have a pair of Endura luminite bought in some sales over Christmas, and although they are a little sweatier than i expected, in the cold, wet, Scottish spring they have been great. Also they are long (with extendable bits) which is good with a 36" inside leg.
Madison dte here worn on all through the winter on commutes and bike packing trips can't fault them
How are the madison trousers middleagedmadness? Im looking at them but struggling with sizing, im roughly 29" waist and 30" inside leg but the shortest inside leg is 32"
