I have a Howies courier bag (about 7yrs old) which now soaks up water on my commute. I put everything in a plastic bag inside at the moment but was wondering if anyone waterproofs their bags, if so do you use jacket waterproofer or is there a cheap alternative as there is no need for it to be breathable. The plastic bag thing is fine, but it bunches all the stuff up so it doesn't sit so well on my back, hence the question
Thanks
have a look at some of the 'paint on' tent waterproofers.

They are the dog's. Just hose them down after a muddy ride.

I use these for almost everything I take outdoors in terms of kit.

Trying to waterproof a bag from the outside is never going to be 100% reliable.
These dry bags are fantastic.
Not a cheap alternative I know but I use an Ortlieb waterproof messenger bag and I think it's ace. Does exactly what it says on the tin...

Thanks all
The tent stuff is the answer I think. Doesn't need to be 100% waterproof but it is soaking up water like a sponge at the moment. Otherwise the bag is holding up well so dont want to change it, and will still go for the plastic bag on really miserable days like today
