for off-road rides. Looking at Endura stealth extreme or lite

or do I just stick with the thermolite ones (with waterproof over shorts)? I don't really like riding with over trousers, feels like they snag on the knees?

I have the Extremes and they are very good. They have proven to be very warm in the cold winter we've had so far and very waterproof. They have only leaked ever so slightly round the back, which I have put down to them being caked in mud and wicking through.

As for the others I cant say as this is the first pair of tights I have ever owned.

The Stealths are mostly OK, but mine have given up any concept of being waterproof (in the arse area at least) despite repeated attempts at re-proofing. A couple of years old now but I have other (non-bikey) waterproofs which have survived much longer than that.

The other thing is that the material isn't really very stretchy. For me, this means that putting on the Medium tights is a bit like wearing a wetsuit. The Large size would be far too long. You'd think that clothing made for cycling would accommodate Hoy-like thighs.

oh dear, I do have large thighs.

They don't have a chamois in them either do they?

Yep - definitely try before you buy (or be prepared to return them). No liner, so allow for that if you want to wear anything underneath.

Oh - the inner "fleece" liner bit of mine has started to peel away at the seams too.

So - not perfect - but then is there anyone else doing such a garment?

I've got a pair of the Stealth Lites and, unless it's freezing and absolutely tipping down all day, find them a bit too hot when mountain biking (with all the climbing and stuff) and a little clammy as well.

My waterproof Endura shorts when worn along with lycra knee warmers are a much more comfortable option.

what's the difference like between the extreme and lite (stats look the same on the website)?

I've got standard warm tights and don't like riding in trousers if I can help it, so thought some waterproof tights for cold wet days would be an idea - argh I can't decide 😕

I think the main difference is that the Extremes have a fleece lining and the Lites don't. So by rights, the Lites sould be slightly thinner and a bit more flexible.
