Waterproof frame bag... repair zip or replace?

I have a waterproof Ortilieb frame bag, size medium, with the big orange zip. Always meant to get some silicon grease* to lube the zip but never did and now it's bust, doesn't zip up. It's been on a daily commuter bike.

Worth a repair? Can it be repaired? I do not care if an entirely different zip went on it, as long as still waterproof. I don't want to do a DIY repair unless relatively easy and doesn't require tool purchases.

See they do a roll top version, maybe might be better for daily use?

*think I read someone on here once say this was the stuff to use.

Following with interest as my Blackburn frame bag with waterproof zip has also broken

It might be possible to get the slider replaced if its just a worn slider and the teeth are still OK - a place local to me will do this for conventional zips and 9/10 times it solves the issue

You could try contacting Restrap, or Alpkit, and get a quote for a repair. Shame to send it to landfill if it can be economically repaired.

I've tried repairing frame bags in the past, it's never gone well

I'd suggest you need A sewing machine at least.

Take it into your alpkit branch that has a repair station. They fix any equipment and will quote you can straight away.

Have you tried cleaning the zip and lubing it with silicon?

The zips on my frame bag and riding jacket get a quick squirt from time to time and it works wonders

Do ortlieb do a repair service? They’re a pretty well established firm.

As above regarding zip sliders. I recently had two replaced on a 30+ year old Karrimor rucsac by the Keswick Alpkit repair staff. Tenner each. The zip will probably no longer be waterproof but most luggage isn't anyway. Replacing entire zips in bags is more complicated (and expensive) and generally not economically viable unless it's a very costly bit of kit.
