Now before you all say the Howies canvas ones I'll be honest and say I haven't got £135 for a pair......yet 😆

Just wondering if waterproof/weather resistant trousers are any further along than the horrible sweaty ones I remember as a kid 👿

I only plan to ride occasionally in them, ie commuting etc, but also use them for dog walking etc.

Any suggestions? Any to steer clear off?

I guess I'm after over trousers but open to suggestions.

Cheers Folks 🙂

I presume what you are looking for is not a full waterproof full-day-in-the-hills over trouser but more of a showerproof for an hour or so trouser that you can wear in public?

There seems to be quite a lot these days. If you can wait for charge bikes to get their finger out and release their surface clothing brand they have some black waterproof trousers/jeans (~£80). Alternatively swrve (~£80), alpkit (~£60) and for even more money than howies, rapha and outlier (both £150+) all do them.

can you tell ive been researching this same question as well? 😉

I guess so 😕 The longest I tend to be out with the dog is only a couple of hours max at the moment and I'm fed up of the water running of my jacket and soaking my trousers 👿 And on the bike...only 30 minutes max.

For normal riding I agree but for just out and about I'm fed up of my boots filling up with water from run off! 😆

Cheers for the suggestions Eddie, I'll get googleing 🙂

I have a pair of these for commuting - still seem to be waterproof after a couple of years use;

If you want to wear them on the bike I can't really recommend Alpkit's jeans, as the thighs wet through pretty quickly in light to moderate rain. They do work pretty well when you're on foot though and they do seem to dry much more quickly that normal jeans.

I had seen these...seem a good price.

But are they breathable as they claim them to be?

Also would you consider the fit suitable for off the bike walking etc? (I'm not talking high street, rather field!)

Yes they seem to be breathable - never noticed this to be a problem.
TBH they probably look better off the bike. Although they are overtrousers, the cut is quite tailored, so look ok with or without trousers under.
Not saying they are the best garment out there, but for the price I think they are ok.

Army gortex camo overtrousers. we got our off ebay over 2 years ago they were new and cost us £5 a pair. They have never let us down. Wore them on Saturday for 4 hours in heavy rain and still kept us dry
