Hi
I’m staying up by Stanton bridge next week and found an old route from MBR taking me round was****er

Would you say the direction in the link for the route would be best as a friend was suggesting it might be better in reverse?

https://www.mbr.co.uk/routes/wasdale-route-gps-download-317859

Are there are alternative/better routes I could be doing perhaps?

Thanks
Christian

We did a very similar ride just before lock down.

We didn't drop all the way into Eskdale, but took the BW back up to Bakerstead and Low Place. We then followed the BW (Forest road) up through Miterdale and back down into Wasdale. The true BW looked good down through the forest into Eskdale

It will be a close call on direction, but as we started from Nether Wasdale the obvious choice was to get the road section done first. Either way enjoy the bog around Burnmoor Tarn.

I would do that clockwise, but wouldn't argue with your mate if he feels strongly about it. Descent into Boot is better than descent into Wasdale from Burnmoor. But, IMO, the descent through Miterdale towards Eskdale probably edges the one into Wasdale from there.

Another argument for clockwise is that you can use fireroads in Miterdale to gain height - it's a straight out push from the other side.

I remember seeing something about the Miterdale BW being closed for forestry work a while back - locals will know if it's back open.

Thanks both that’s useful

I try clockwise hopefully tomorrow. Any ideas how long it might take for an average rider?

Took me four hours from Eskdale Green to Boot on the Jennride. But that was bikepacking, 50 miles in, with a 25 minute stop at Wasdale Head. But in much drier, warmer, unwindy conditions (virtually no Burnmoor bog).
