I’m sure I saw a thread about light weight tents recently, but can I find it…? No chance.
Can anyone point it out to me please?
Walked up to hidden valley in Glencoe yesterday where there were about 6 wild camping tents.
At least 3 of them were Naturehike cloud up tents which pleased me, as it's the one I ended up buying.

Clearly a not-hidden valley then? 😉 (stunningly stunning bit of the world - not jealous at all)

Must be nearly 40 years since I walked thru there - lovely spot.

Well, it was hidden. I believe mine is the first photo to have ever been seen.

Yes, last was there in winter climbing some ice on the LHS in 2000s or maybe late 90s....
Back OT, I noticed on my FB feed this morning that Alpkit were advertising a 500g 2 person tent!

Are they advertising the tent at 500g? That's a bit misleading if so, as....
500g is for the outer 'tarp' only.
The inner & footprint take that to 1190g according to their website.
That doesn't include a pole, so you can either use a trekking pole or more likely for bikepacking buy their pole designed for this tent. That's another 115g or 140g depending on what length pole you go for.
So full tent, plus short pole is 1.3kg or so. Still not shabby. But, not 500g.

It was something like as low as 500g and it was clear you used a trekking pole.
Ref the Alpkit Tarpstar and poles. There was a chap on eBay making custom carbon poles for tents and tarps. He’s made me one for my GoLite SL3
and a pair for the tiny tarp.
More money than an entry level trekking poles but easier to carry. I’ll see if I can track him down.

Stu at BearBones also does custom carbon poles.
@scotroutes yes I drew a blank with the chap who did mine so was about to link to bear bones https://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/product/custom-length-carbon-poles/
Indeed, the inner and outer weight with footprint is 1.5kg.
Is it me or does it look quite low compared to the GoLite's? Great in wind, awful for head and foot room.
I would genuinely like to try one out - I was tempted by a backpacking light Hex Peak a few months.
So my wife bought a Wild Country Zephyros Compact 2 but it’s not that much smaller & lighter than what we already have so think it’s going to go back.
The Alpkit Tarpster looks like an interesting option and potentially pretty flexible, although it would probably be rare that I’d want to use it in anything other than tent mode.
Also cheers for the link to the poles
The design of that Tarpstar means that the inner will get soaked when it's raining and you open the outer door. Maybe the designers misundertood the meaning of bathtub floor?
If it’s not in the thread I can recommend the Coleman Viper, a lightish one person tent with room to sit up in. Mine’s old and well used - they no longer make them, but they come up on eBay.
