So a dropper post I bought from the USA about 18 months ago broke, I contacted the company and they sent me a new one and then provided a DHL courier pickup for the broken one. So far so good. So following the instructions on the DHL site I arranged the pickup for this morning and the van turned up right on time. However the driver refused to take the package as they now, post Brexit, require an invoice with all goods leaving the UK, even if it's a warranty return.
I have of course contacted the USA and hopefully they just need to send me a invoice to print out and it's not like I had somewhere else to be (4 weeks until my 1 year WFH because of Corvid anniversary!) but if this really is now down to Brexit it's yet another set of hoops to jump through when dealing with overseas companies.
This isn't a complaint about the vendor, they have been easy to deal with and have sorted things out without quibbling but I do wonder if they will bother to keep selling to the UK if this is the level of red-tape they need to cope with.
I send parts to and from the USA all the time with DHL, they have always required a Commercial invoice. You can type one yourself, it just needs a description of the part, price of the part, weight, quantity and its country of origin. Nothing to do with Brexit.
On the other hand I now have to itemise and list every tool I have and wish to travel with (Pre COVID I was doing around 150 flights per year) an have an ATA Carnet, which is very much the fault of Brexit.
It did seem a bit odd to me - it was the driver who said it was new Brexit regulation. It also seems weird that the DHL website didn't mention this when I booked the collection. It's not like they didn't know where the package was going to!
