My son has snapped his Fathom 1 29er frame - complete (and very clean) break right through the top bottle boss on the seat tube.
the bike is just three years old and the frame has a lifetime warranty - so I've dropped the retailer a note over the weekend to see ho we go about pursuing a warranty claim.
My question/issue is this:
The frame is covered, but what about component compatibility? the latest model Fathom has 130mm forks (vs 100 on the older model), bolt through rear (vs qr), etc, etc - so if we are offered a new frame, we can't actually use the existing parts (which are v worn anyway).
So how does/should the warranty work? presumably a straight frame replacement is what we are likely to be offered, but given the above is it normal/better to request a discount on a new bike instead? If that's the case, what's a "reasonable" request?

No idea with Giant but Scott hold central warranty frame stock that they sell off on a rolling basis after about 2-3 years.
We warrantied a Trek frame and they sorted things that didn't match like headset.
Your fork and wheel issues sound trickier....
How did he break it? If it's not a manufacturing defect then they might just offer a discount on a replacement frame.
Obvs by a child lifting post to beyond it's min insertion 😜
When the chainstay snapped on my mates giant gravel bike there was no stock of the frame and he got a new bike
@notjustacyclingadict - well he's 24 and 6ft - not grown much in the past three years!!
@thegingerone - he broke it literally just riding along - not jumps or anything silly - although it was at the end of a week long trip to Dumfries & Galloway where we did a red every day - but he's not a 'jumper or hucker" - just XC

I thought that at first. But if you think about it. It's obviously something to do with the reaming of the seat tube to the seat post size. Blunt bit which has wandered. Or more likely the depth setting on the machine was wrong. It's bored down, hit the bottle boss and kept on spinning because it hasn't reached the depth setting it's set too and returned. That would wear the inside of the tube down because unless it's a brand new, near perfect machine there would be some bit wander. That's then taken the tube thickness down from 1.0mm (?) To say 0.2mm-0.4mm. Easy to understand the failure then.
Or the bikes had one of those child seat carriers fitted which attach to the seat tube just above the bottle bosses.

I had a warranty claim on an obsolete (26”) Giant frame. They had no warranty frames left, so I got an entire new £3k+ 27.5” bike.
I was pretty pleased with that outcome.
I’ve had more than 1 claim with Giant (via my LBS) and never an issue.
Warranty claim is underway through the dealer and waiting on a response from Giant - we'll see!
@trifoster - definitely not had a child carrier fitted!
@ampthill - I agree - it is odd - and right through the middle of the bottle boss - maybe the hole for the boss wasn't round in the first place and caused a stress riser? It's never even had a bottle cage fitted to the seat tube!

@notjustacyclingaddict - no not really - 6ft, and probs about 80 kilos max - pretty fast/powerful but he doesn't do jumps or drops!
